~ MEGAN HART ~

Hello Megan and welcome back to Under the Covers! We are huge fans of your work and is always a pleasure to have you here. Today we wanted to share a different aspect of your books in our historical romance month event.

Thank you so much for having me!

I read the Order of Solace series a while back when I went on my Megan Hart binge and decided to devour everything you had ever written. I was immediately taken with the world you created because of how different it is to other historical romances. What three words would you use to describe the Order of Solace series?

Thanks for that, I loved writing the Order of Solace world. The three words I’d use to describe it would be — sensual, emotional and complex.

With all the interesting worldbuilding that goes on in this series, how do you keep track of all the details of the world?

At this point, having written only four books in the world, I haven’t had to do more than keep some general notes. With further stories, though, I’d make up a “bible” to keep track of important details.

This series has a BDSM erotic focus on historical romance that is not often touched. How did you come up with this concept which, at the time, I’m sure would’ve been a bit out of the box and not as popular as it is now.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you exactly where the idea came from. I’d been writing online with some friends in some online games, and the concept of submission and offering comfort in the form of a BDSM relationship came up. The idea of having it be a religious order came later. As with all my ideas, I can’t usually pinpoint any one place where the idea came from; it’s always a mashup of lots of different influences!

What was the easiest and the most difficult thing about writing this series?

The easiest was creating the characters. I love all of them. The hardest would be keeping track of the historical details to keep the story accurate — even though their world is made up and doesn’t follow our history, it has to be consistent within the series!

Historical Romance heroes can be one of the hottest across all genres. Tell us who your all-time favorite Historical Romance hero is and explain why you adore him so much.

Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre. Hands down. He’s so deliciously damaged!

Since it’s Historical month at UTC, we want to know why you love the era in which you wrote this series in and perhaps share with us one or two of your favorite books that explore that time period.

The Order of Solace books take place in a pseudo Regency era world with some historical anachronisms. I love the time period that’s so rigidly defined in terms of what people in society were expected to do and how they were to behave — at least the upper class. Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice absolutely come to mind. There are so many wonderful contemporary Regency novels as well, I couldn’t possibly name one without naming fifty.

Do you have any plans to write any other historical romances in the future?

I don’t, though I’d love to revisit the Order of Solace in the future!
