Today we are very excited to bring bring you the talented Jessica Sorensen.  One of UTC’s favorites this year!

Hi Jessica! Welcome to UTC!

I heard that a recurring dream inspired Ella and Micha’s story. Can you tell us more about that?

Yes, it did! It started out just being about a guy who loved his best friend, but the best friend was unsure about her feelings for him. They’d grown up together. Did everything together.

At first that was all the dream was about, but then the dream changed and the girl ran off and when she came back she was an entirely different person, because she’d shut down over something tragic. That’s when I knew I had to write their story.

I read THE FOREVER OF ELLA AND MICHA and was completely blown away by it! How would you say this book compares to the first in the series and what kind of obstacles will Ella and Micha face this time around?

I think that The Forever of Ella and Micha is a slightly a bit different from the first one because the biggest challenge in the first one was the two of them getting together, whereas in the second one they face a lot of personal issues. Ella faces issues with anxiety and depression, which has always been a fear of hers. And Micha deals with issues with his father.

In the end of the book, both characters have to accept that their issues might always exist, but they don’t have to let it ruin their lives. And that they can still live their lives happily together.

You can’t help but fall in love with Ethan and Lila in this series as well.  They are getting their own book titled THE TEMPTATION OF LILA & ETHAN. Can you tell us more about this book? Will we find out what Lila meant when she says she is thankful for candy canes? 😉

Oh yes, the candy cane and red lacy bra thing will definitely be explained in their book 🙂

And trust me, it’s a very good explanation.

In The Temptation of Lila and Ethan, you’ll get to learn a little bit about what went on between the two of them while Ella and Micha were doing their thing and it will also be about them after Ella and Micha move away. And there will be a few scenes with Ella and Micha in it.

You write both contemporary and paranormal New Adult and Young Adult series. Do you approach them differently from a writer’s standpoint?

I think I approach most of my stories the same way, however, I do sugarcoat it a lot more when it is a Young Adult series.

Your other NA contemporary series, The Coincidence, knocked readers on their asses with its killer cliffhanger ending. What can readers expect from THE REDEMPTION OF CALLIE & KAYDEN?

Lots and lots of emotion and a lot of healing for both Callie and Kayden.

I gotta say, you write the most delicious heroes! What one quality do you think all heroes should have?

I always love it when heroes are dealing with an issue themselves. Micha and Kayden both had issues with their father, although they are two very different issues; Micha with abandonment and Kayden with abuse. I think giving them an issue makes them seem so much more real and personally that’s what I love in a hero. Realness.

I know you are a music fanatic and like to include music in your novels. What one song would you say describes your books or you as a person?

Oh man, I don’t think I can pick just one! A hundred songs just ran through my head when I read the question. I’ll name a few that I think describe a few of my books. Spill Canvas is always my go-to band so I’ll start with them. Lullaby by Spill Canvas, Never too Late By Three Days Grace, and Shameful Metaphors by Chevelle.

Can you describe a typical writing day for you?

I wake up, get coffee in my system, answer emails and anything else that needs to be done, then I write usually for about 8 hours, or until dinnertime, my music blasting the entire time 🙂

Quick-fire questions!

Sea or sand?

Coffee or Tea?

Cosmo or Mojito?

Print or ebook?

Jock or nerd?

Micha or Kayden?

Dang it this is a hard one… Kayden fans please don’t hate me but I’m going to have to pick Micha.

The Secret # 1

If you loved Beautiful Disaster then you’re ready to discover . . .

A rule-breaker with a fiery attitude, Ella always wore her heart on her sleeve. Then she left everything behind to go to college, where she transformed into someone who follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. Now it’s summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home. But once there, Ella fears that everything she’s worked so hard to bury might resurface-especially with Micha living right next door.

Smart, sexy, and confident, Micha can get under Ella’s skin like no one else. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. If he tries to tempt the old Ella to return, he will be impossible to resist. But what Ella doesn’t realize is that when she left, she took a piece of Micha’s heart with her. Now he’s determined to win back the girl he lost, no matter what it takes.

The Secret # 2

Ella and Micha have survived tragedy and heartbreak. When they’re together, anything seems possible. But now they are thousands of miles apart, and managing their long distance relationship will put their love to the test.

Ella is back at school, trying hard not worry so much about her future. But with her father in and out of rehab, she’s having a hard time making it through the days. All she wants is Micha by her side, but she refuses to let her problems get in the way of his dreams.

Micha spends his days touring the country with his band, but deep down he knows something is missing. Being away from Ella is harder than he thought it would be. He wants her closer to him-needs her with him. But he won’t ask her to leave college, just to be with him.

The few moments they do spend together are intense and passionate, but it only makes it more difficult when they have to part. They know they want to be together, but is wanting something enough to get them to their forever?

jessicasorensenAbout the Author

I’m the author of the Fallen Star Series, the Darkness Falls Series, the Death Collectors Series, and the New York Times and USA Today Best Seller, The Secret of Ella and Micha, a New Adult Contemporary novel.

I love writing and reading almost anything that is YA. Some of my favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Sarah Dessen, Becca Fitzpatrick, Abbi Glines, Tammara Webber, Jamie McGuire and Jennifer L. Armentrout. I’m also an avid watcher of TV series The Vampire Diaries and of Modern Family.

I absolutely love music. When I’m writing, 9 out of 10 times I have music blaring in the background. My list of favorite songs could go on and on, since I have a very broad taste in music. But a few of my favorite bands are Chevelle, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Brand New, Death Cab for Cutie, Flight 409, Nirvana, and I’m going to stop there or else I’ll keep going on forever.
I don’t really have any favorite movies, but a few that I could watch over and over again are Anywhere but Here, Juno, Pride and Prejudice, The Hangover, and Bad Teacher.
