We would like to welcome Heather Killough-Walden today to UTC.ย She recently released the third book in the Lost Angels series, Death’s Angel.ย The Lost Angels series, and Death’s Angel, have been getting great reviews.
Welcome to UTC, Heather.ย Tell us five things about you that may surprise us!
- I donโt watch True Blood. (Surprise!) Itโs just too gory; no thank you.
- Iโve never seen โSupernaturalโ either.
- Or the new Teen Wolf.
- Or read most paranormal romances out today.
- Why? Either no time or no desire โ or both.
What can you tell us about your new release, Death’s Angel?
I honestly feel that with the right marketing so that people everywhere find out it exists and know what itโs about, this book would make the New York Times list and stay there for quite a while. Itโs about a vampire unlike any that has ever been written and itโs so hot, I had to wrestle a bit with my editors to keep some of the scorching-ness in there. It received a 4 ยฝ โHOTโ star rating from Romance Times. Hereโs their review, to give you an idea:

Killough-Waldenโs Lost Angels series continues to pick up steam in this third outing featuring archangel and vampire Azrael. The bonds among the four archangels are strong and compelling, but what really makes this series fascinating are the motivations and machinations of its villains. The continued high-quality storytelling provided by Killough-Walden indicates she is a star on the rise.
As the Angel of Death, Azraelโs descent to Earth included the extra burden of vampirism. He has coped by building a loyal army of vampires, some of whom are band mates in his mega-star rock group Valley of Shadow. It is at his brother Gabrielโs wedding to Juliette where Azrael is drawn to Julietteโs BFF and maid of honor, Sophie Bryce. Sophie is un-awakened to her true nature as an archess and Azrael doesnโt want to spook her, so he decides takes it slow. As Sophie returns to school at Berkeley, Azrael makes plans to visit her. But several dark forces have their own agendas and they are determined to gain control of Sophie โ and destroy Azrael. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Jan., 368 pp., $7.99)

What inspired you to write the Lost Angels series?
At the time that I first had the idea, there were seriously no angel romance books out yet. Well, not many anyway. By the time the book went through its incredibly lengthy editing process and all of that, it was a year and a half to two years later and there were a few more angel books on display on the bookstore shelves, and more were to follow. Fortunately for me, mine are unique in that they center on four specific (or five?) angels โ very famous angels, in fact. And also, theyโre better. ๐
Which angel is your favourite?
Not telling. LOL
How many books will there be in the Lost Angels series? Will Samael get a book! I kinda like him…
Yes, Samael will get a book. Samael isโฆ vital. I am also considering spin-offs to the series, but as for these initial and specific Lost Angels themselves, there will be six books total: one eBook-only introductory novella and five full-length novels.
You have written different paranormal creatures such as werewolves, vampires and angels. Which did you have most fun with?
It isnโt a specific creature Iโve had more fun with, itโs specific characters, and these range across the paranormal board.
Which paranormal creature would you like to have your HEA with and why?
None. I prefer human, to be honest.
Most of the paranormal characters I write are purposely so far removed from reality, they would not actually be capable of understanding the most fundamental aspects of humanity, such as the cold slap in the face of realizing youโre growing old, the misery of sickness or disease, and especially the bone-numbing fear of death. If you canโt understand these things, you canโt empathize with them, and to me empathy is absolutely key.
Besides โ my husband is human. I prefer him.
Your angels are having a dinner party…. What other fictional characters (from other books) would they want to invite?
I think that it would be the archesses more than anyone who would want to invite others. Probably, it would be the lot of them banding together to invite Lalura Chantelle โ first and foremost โ and then Lily, Charlie, Dannai, Katherine, Imani, Evie, and Siobhan. Theyโre fun. Theyโve seen some shit and theyโve dealt with a lot and they would all be able to talk about their experiences, empathize with one another (thereโs that word again โ itโs so important), and even laugh at themselves. There would be a major camaraderie there.
What’s next for you?
Work, I hope.
If Iโm alive, Iโll be working.
And enjoying my family.
Since the beginning of time, the archangels have longed to know true love. When four female angels were created for the four archangels, Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Azrael, a chaos spurred by jealousy erupted, and the archesses were secreted away to Earth. The four favored archangels followed, prompting a search that has lasted millennia.
As the Angel of Death, Azrael could never be like his brothers. While the others fell to Earth in human form, Azrael descended as a vampire. Today, as the lead singer of a popular rock band, he keeps his true nature hidden–a powerful darkness constantly at odds with his angelic self. Beneath his mask, Azrael holds onto the hope that he will one day find the archess who will complete him.
At his brother Gabriel’s wedding, Azrael set his golden eyes on Sophie Bryce, the maid of honor. He is certain she is his destined mate, and will do anything to make her his. But Sophie is unaware of her archess identity, and is haunted by unspeakable demons of her own.
When supernatural forces emerge from the shadows, threatening Sophie, Azrael is the only one who can protect her. But to do it, he must reveal his true, savage self.
Awesome interview! These questions were great! Death’s Angel looks and sounds amazing!
Thanks for the chance to win!
another nice interview. (i’d want to be a fly on the wall of that dinner party, all those ladies together, nothing good can come of that haha)
Great interview , Heather again . this is an excellent book along with the previous three Always Angel , Avenger’s Angel and Messenger’s Angel. The brother are very close but there is some very much distance for Azreal because of his nature here on earth, but what family s doesn’t have its problems. In ,y opinion this is one of the best series on the market. Great job on the interview again. Maryanne
