And now, help us welcome our first author during our month long historical romance event! Welcome Donna!

Broc seems like a very complex and interesting hero, can you tell us a little bit about his development as a character?

There’s a lot more to Broc than any one realizes. He’s kept so much to himself, but Sonya has a way of pulling it out of him. He’s a powerful Warrior, but his powers and skill are put to the test in DARKEST HIGHLANDER.

What would you say is Broc’s greatest strength? What is his weakness?

His greatest strength is Sonya.
His greatest weakness is Sonya

That’s very sweet 🙂 Tell us a bit about Sonya, the heroine in Darkest Highlander.

She is the only healer of the Druids, and her ability to communicate with the trees is a rare gift among Druids. She holds both very dear, but she fears that when she needs her magic the most, she’ll be unable to use it. It’s that fear that hinders her.

Historical romance is now being infused with the paranormal. You being an author who embraces this, why do you think this seems to be popular amongst readers?

I wish it was more popular! lol. There are too few of us authors who mix the historical and paranormal. 🙂 I think its popular because contemporary paranormal is a given. But in historicals, there is also a lot an author can do. I love infusing both the historical and paranormal, because they’re two of my favorite genres.

Historical and paranormal are favourites of ours as well! Your worldbuilding is incredible. How do you make sure you stay accurate historically while still incorporating elements that are distinctly “Donna Grant”?

lol. I get asked this a lot. It’s all about being organized. I have a spreadsheet where I keep the heroes and heroines information (Hair color, eye color, scars, magic, etc…) Once I get the title or a book, I go back in and add that as well. Putting in minor details that I may or may not use in future books is very important.

It keeps me from wasting time going back through a book and looking for that information. I also have two notebooks I keep with me while I’m writing. One lists the chapters (so I don’t have 2 chapter 4s – it’s happened! lol) and also keeps my page count tally through the entire book.

The other notebook lists the title, setting of the book, season, characters and descriptions, places where the book takes places, and any characters throughout the book. I also make a list of things that I might want to include in future books on this page.

All of it may seem redundant, but it helps me keep mistakes to a minimum. 🙂

Through your research, what is the most interesting thing you have learned?

There’s so much I wouldn’t even know where to begin! lol. Seriously, it might have to be on the Druids. There’s no definitive answer on who/what the Druids were. Some claim them to be pagans who did human sacrifices while others claim they were teachers and leaders. I don’t think we’ll ever really know who they were.

Is there another genre or another subgenre of romance you’d like to tackle sometime in the future?

I’ll have my first contemporary paranormal books out this year (May/June and Nov/Dec) in the continuation of the Dark Sword books to the Dark Warriors series. 🙂

We will be on the look out for those new books! What’s in your TBR (to be read) pile right now?
Too dang many books to read! I can’t wait to get caught up after I finish these deadlines, but the rate in which I buy books, that will probably never happen. lol

What book by another author do you wish you wrote yourself? Why?

I don’t think there is one. Each author is unique in their “voice” while writing a book. It’s the author’s voice and their imagination that makes a book so amazing. I wouldn’t take that away.

If you could travel in time wht time would you go to and what historical figure would you like to met?

I don’t think I’d want to meet anyone important. I’d travel back to Medieval Scotland see how it was from the peasants to the lords.

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, which one of your highlanders would you like to be your hunny buns on this special day and why? What would you do?

Probably Malcolm because he’s dark and moody.

Good choice! Thanks Donna for taking the time to chat with us! Maidens, stay tuned!
