~ CHRISTINA LEE ~

Welcome to UTC, Christina! Since this is your first time here, let’s get to know you a little bit better!

So happy to be here!

Who is Christina Lee? Share five interesting tidbits about yourself that readers wouldn’t necessarily know about you!

I used to live in NYC and worked as a wardrobe stylist on some TV shows and magazine shoots.

I binge watch The Real Housewives seasons

My favorite color is spring green to go along with my favorite season.

I’d take salty chips over a bowl of ice cream any day (unless the ice cream was salted caramel)

At the movie theatre I mix Milk Duds with my popcorn, just like Ella did in Before You Break

The third book in the series, WHISPER TO ME is releasing in May. Could you tell us a little bit about this book?

The first book, ALL OF YOU, introduces three girlfriends and each friend has their own standalone story. WHISPER TO ME is Rachel’s book. She’s the friend that many of my readers love to hate, but also the character most readers asked for a story about.

Three years earlier she suffered a traumatic brain injury and cheated death. She returns home for the summer at the same time her childhood friend, Kai, returns from studying abroad in Amsterdam.

Kai is Native American, plays the upright bass, and has secretly been in love with Rachel since he helped nursed her back to health. This book, in my humble opinion,  is filled with loads of tension, angst, and the thrill of a forbidden relationship. It’s probably the sexiest of my three books.

Are there any models or celebrities you had in mind when writing Kai and Rachel’s characters?

It’s hard to find Native American models/book boyfriends. This photo would be the closest I’ve gotten to the picture of Kai in my head (found on Pinterest, from the Model Mayhem site).

Rachel has dark hair that she’s let grow out since her accident. She reminds me of an Evangeline Lily.

What is your favourite quote from WHISPER TO ME?

It’s difficult to choose just one.  Maybe I’ll just point out the end of this scene, which was the hardest emotionally for me to write:

“Wait,” I said, emotions clogging my throat.

I wanted her to stay. And I needed her to go.

My heart threatened to burst from my chest. And then felt as if it might stop beating altogether.

She shook her head without turning around.

Her fingers roughly gripped the door handle, her knuckles turning white.

And then she was gone.

Congratulations on selling the next two novels in your Between Breaths series. Book four, PROMISE ME THIS will be Nate and Jessie’s story. What can you tell us about this book?

THANK YOU! Nate is in all three books. He’s Bennett’s friend (from ALL OF YOU) and is known as a player. I usually write good boys, so writing a supposed bad boy has been fun.

Jessie works at Raw Ink tattoo shop with Bennett. She sports blue hair and a sleeve of tattoos. Nate is Mr. Pretty-Boy-Next-Door. So: opposites attract? You’ll have to wait and see. 😉

What is the greatest hardship for you while writing a book?

Getting the first draft down. I thrive on revisions and edits because the words are already there and I can work my magic. 😉

You’re always giving me great book recommendations. What is something that you’ve read recently that you’d recommend?

Oh gosh, this is tough!  So many. Okay, I’ll look at my Kindle and tell you the last two I read this week and loved: Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren (it was an ARC and releases on May 13th), and Play by Kylie Scott.

Great picks! I especially loved Mal’s book! If you could collaborate with another author on a project, who would you pick and what would your story likely be about?

Another tough question, gah, you’re killing me! So many authors I admire!

Recently, I was lucky enough to have been paired by Penguin with AL Jackson, Tiffany King, and Molly McAdams on an anthology collaboration we wrote, called WHEN WE MET. It releases this fall and is about four girls who live in a house together their junior year of college.  I loved working and writing with them.

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Thank you SO MUCH for having me!!!

whisper to me

A hot and consuming New Adult romance about a wayward musician and the one girl who keeps him grounded…

At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for star athletes. No one at school knows that she’d had her heart ripped to shreds by her high school sweetheart, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle, and then abandoned her. No one knows the real Rachel Mattson—except one person…

Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that fateful night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is back, groveling for her forgiveness.

Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Kai is willing to hide his feelings for her, just to have Rachel touch him again. After all, this is only a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But maybe it had been more all along.
