~ CATHERINE MANN ~

Welcome to UTC! Tell us a bit about yourself! List 5 things that readers would not know about you.

Thanks so much for having me here today!  As for five things about me…. I’m a military wife, mom of four amazing young adults, grandmom of the most beautiful baby girl in the world, foster mom to Humane Society pups, and I write 4-5 books a year.

Congratulations on your most recent release, FREE FALL. Can you tell us a bit about the book?

FREE FALL is book 4 in my “Elite Force” series about Air Force pararescumen.

What was the biggest challenge when it came to writing Jose and Stella’s book?

The hero is a recovering alcoholic.  I deeply wanted to do justice to his journey and really poured a lot of heart and research into relaying his struggle.

For readers who are new to your books, could you please tell us a bit about your Elite Force series? What was the inspiration behind it?

I am an Air Force wife, so I’m often drawn to military characters.  The pararescue motto has always resonated for me – “These things we do that others may live.”  It’s an honor to showcase these elite force heroes!

What would you say is the biggest challenge in writing Romantic Suspense?

I want my villains to have motivations for the crimes they commit.  I think the more compelling the villain’s motivation, the more intense the mystery becomes.  Without question, the villain in this book has done horrific things … but the reason behind it?  I think readers will see what a slippery slope morality can be.

When you get the chance to read, who are some of your go-to authors and what is it about each of their works that resonate with you?

I read a lot of different genres.  I adore the lightness of Theresa Medieros’ historicals.  I am riveted by the edge-of-the-seat grittiness of Lisa Garner’s mysteries.  I love to immerse myself in the lush whimsy of Sarah Addison Allen’s paranormals.  Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books always entertain.  And Tana French’s way with words and characterization – wowsa!  I could go on and on!

Take us through a day in the life of a writer. What does your daily writing routine consist of?

I like to stay busy.  I also find that parts of a book come together in my head if I can find time to step away from the computer and let the story gel.  I do write every day – but I also do all the regular, hectic mom things and volunteer at my local Humane Society.

How much research goes into one of your books?

I rely a lot on the internet, but I also believe it’s very important to have a human source too.  Interviewing someone in the field is crucial – their lingo and stories really bring the world to life!

What’s next for Catherine Mann?

April brings PLAYING FOR KEEPS, the 3rd book in my “Alpha Brotherhood” series for Harlequin Desire.
