~ ANNA RANDOL ~

Welcome to UTC, Anna! Can you please tell us a bit about yourself and what made you decide to write Historical Romance?

Thanks for having me! I write Regency Romance for Avon. I love action, suspense, and dark, tortured heroesโ€ฆthe hotter the better.

I think the simple answer to why I write Historical Romance that we all have a genre we gravitate toward as readers and writers. It can be dukes, or vampires, or Navy SEALs. But each of us finds that certain type of world that allows us to escape fully, to become immersed, to lose ourselves. For me that has always been Historical Romance. I started reading them as a teenager hiding those scandalous novels among the other, more serious, books I had selected from the library. (Seeing Mr. Darcy jump into that lake in the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice didnโ€™t hurt eitherโ€ฆ)

Letโ€™s talk about your upcoming release. SINS OF A RUTHLESS ROGUE releases in March 2013, what can you tell us about it?

Revenge never tasted so sweet . . .
When Clayton Campbell shows up on her doorstep, Olivia Swift is stunned. For long ago, Clayton was the boy who stole her heart. He’s also the man her betrayal had sent to the gallows. A man she believed dead, now standing before her, looking leaner, harder, more powerful than ever, his haunted eyes filled with a lust she had never seenโ€”for vengeance . . .

Or burned so hot . . .
He has more than once faced death and escaped unscathed. Yet Clayton Campbell cannot deny that the sight of Olivia rouses in him something more than a thirst for revenge. Or that the bold beauty would lure him once more into a dangerous game. Only this time, Clayton plans to be the victorโ€” with the tempting Olivia in his bed as his prize. But once passion ignites between them, the hard-hearted agent will face his greatest battle yetโ€” for his heart . . .

How did the Sinners Trio series come to be?

Often when I write, I get ideas for books in the form of bits of scenes in my head, then I work backwards to figure out who the person is and how they got into that situation. But for the Sinners Trio, the idea for the whole series came to me at once, kind of like reading the description on the back of a book. I could see these three former spies fired after the war with Napoleon was over and I knew they each had to have their own story!

Do you have a favorite scene you’ve written, or that was the hardest or most emotional to write? Care to share?

It shouldnโ€™t surprise anyone whoโ€™s read one of my books that I love action and adventure. My poor characters are always fleeing, fighting, or solving some riddle. And while Sins of a Ruthless Rogue has many of those moments, my favorite one to write was a quiet moment between the hero and heroine where she rests her head on his shoulder and they share a quiet moment together amid all the intrigue.

I think, especially in books that are so fast paced, itโ€™s critical for the reader to believe that this love between the hero and the heroine will last far after the adventure is over. This scene was the moment that I finally felt that way about these two characters, and I hope the reader does, too!

What is your favorite Historical Romance book and what is it about this book that resonated with you?

I absolutely adore Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. I love a tortured hero, and Sebastian is perhaps one of the best I have ever read. But more than my favorite type of hero, the Chase was able to dig so deeply and completely into her charactersโ€™ minds and hearts that by the end of the book everything that was happening to Sebastian and Jessica felt like it was happening to me, too. In fact, when I was beginning to write, this was the book I studied over and over again as I learned to write emotion.

What does a typical day in the life look like for you? Any writing routines?

I have kids so my writing is mainly confined to naptime and after bedtime. So after the kids go to bed, I only need two thingsโ€”chocolate and more chocolate. (The darker the better!) Then I will sit down at the computer and write as fast as I can before I fall asleep at my keyboardโ€ฆ

What’s next for Anna Randol?

My next novel, Sins of a Wicked Princess (Nov. 2013), is the final book in the Sinners Trio series. I canโ€™t wait for my readers to get it! Ian Maddox, or Wraith as he is sometimes called, finally gets his own book. And while Ian might like to pretend heโ€™s all swagger and wit, he soon meets his match in a feisty princess who needs his special skills to help her regain her country. She doesnโ€™t let Ian get away with any of his usual tricks and for the first time Ian has to decide if heโ€™s willing to open himself up to love.

AnnaRandolAbout the Author

Anna Randol was raised in Southern California. When she was eight, she decided her diary was too dull and decided to write as if she lived on a raft in the Amazon with her imaginary dog, Cream Puff. At twelve, Anna decided racing down rapids with only a dog for company might get rather lonely. Handsome British heroes began to appear on her raft, and her love of adventure-driven romance was born.

Donโ€™t believe it? See for yourself!

Anna currently lives with her family in Southern California, where she loves eating chocolate, making plans for remodels she never intends to do, and drawing pictures in the sand at the beach to baffle future archaeologists.

    1. It really is fascinating that the police force that we know today didn’t yet exist! I think the British feared becoming too much like the French after the revolution. But Henry Fielding and his Bow Street Runners soon changed that.

  14. Thanks for the interview! I love all your books! I was Enthralled with you in A Secret in Her Kiss, then intrigue in A Naked Solution, and Fell in love with you in Sins of a Virgin. What next? Question, What is next for you after the Sinners Trio?
