Interview and Giveaway with Amanda Carlson and Kristen Painter

ACES WILD, the new release from Amanda Carlson, is part of an exciting new PNR multi-author series. Authors Amanda Carlson and author Kristen Painter interview each other exclusively for UTC about how the series and the idea came about.

AC: This multi-author series was originally your brainchild, tell us how it came about.

KP: It really started because I was brainstorming with some other author friends of mine, who were talking about doing some similar, but couldn’t find the time. I started talking about it to you and Sin City Collectors was born.

KP: What’s it like writing in a world not entirely your own?

AC: As you know, I was a little nervous about it at first. Wrapping my brain around the entire “sharing and agreeing” that would need to come about when collaborating on world building had me a bit worried. Authors tend to covet their creative control, lol. But as we talked it over, and slowly began to come up with the parameters, everything fell beautifully in to place. Now I can’t imagine not doing it! I feel strongly that the world of the SIN CITY COLLECTORS would not have been as dynamic had we worked alone. You came up with things I would never have dreamed up, and vice versa. It was great to come up with it together. And as a result, this world was so much fun to write in. Honestly, it was an absolute blast. And I have you to thank for that!

AC: Why Vegas?

KP: Why not Vegas? It’s a crazy, colorful, anything-can-happen kind of town that lends itself to the paranormal without trying too hard. It was the perfect backdrop for this amazing new series.

KP: Why a dhampir?

AC: I love dhampirs. I always have. And it just occurred to me that not many—to my knowledge—were out there. I love the half human aspect as well, and the fact that she is still tough as nails. Nevada Hamilton is completely edgy and was a joy to write.

AC: How many novellas do you plan to write? Are they going to be in print?

KP: I hope to write at least three and then they will be going into print! Beyond that, we’ll just have to see what our readers want.

AC: I plan to write at least three as well.  Once I have all three, I’ll put them in to print as well.

KP: What’s your next installment about?

AC: My next book is called ANTE UP. It’ll be out late summer or early fall (depending on deadlines!). It features Diesel Jones, a shifter with moon issues, and the beautiful new witch in town, Sofia Cabrera. They both make an appearance in ACES WILD, and Neve and Jake make appearances in ANTE UP. It’s been so fun to write them all together in this book.

KP: What can readers expect moving forward?

AC: All the installments, by any of the authors, will be set in the same world. Each story will have its own happily ever after. They will be tied up at the end, no cliffhangers. We promise. But as we each write more installments, you’ll see more things shared between novellas—like places (in Kristen’s first installment, QUEEN OF HEARTS, out in early July, her hero/heroine visit Hellhounds–Jake’s bar), secondary characters, and with the same author you’ll likely get so see some of your favorite characters again in future installments.

KP: What other authors are joining the SIN CITY COLLECTORS?

AC: So far we have some awesome authors joining us: Sara Humphreys, Angie Fox, and Shawntelle Madison are slated for late ’14-’15, and we are in the works with other authors, so stay tuned! It would be so fun to have as many as we can. Who doesn’t want more fun?
