“If you’re into a simple, holiday read with some charm, Shalvis is always a good place to look.”
~ Under the Covers

HOT WINTER NIGHTS is the sixth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. Since it’s a holiday read, you know that I had to read this right away. I’m such a sucker for these stories, especially ones written by Jill. However, I definitely felt like something was missing from this novel. Although it’s cute and has a lot of heartwarming elements in it, something about the characters just didn’t click with me. I usually instantly fall in love with Shalvis’s characters so this was a pretty big surprise when I was halfway through this book already and felt pretty meh about it all.

I just felt like perhaps the sparks were missing, making me wish there was something more going on in this novel than the easy plotline. If you have read all of Shalvis’s books like me, then they may start to all feel a little similar, which might be the case here. Nothing really stood out to me this time and it was almost a little too easy? I don’t know. It’s still enjoyable, but I guess that I was expecting more. Or at least something different from the author. After all, this is book six in the series. I do worry that the same formula will be used to continue in this series and that all the books will become the same. Nevertheless, if you’re into a simple, holiday read with some charm, Shalvis is always a good place to look.

  1. It stinks when stories by the same author become similar. It loses that something that pulled you in in the first place.

  2. I think I might have enjoyed this one a little more than you, but yes many contemporary romances blend into each other. I find if I didn’t have a cover on Shalvis, Foster or Stacey’s books I wouldn’t be able to tell you which author wrote the book. They are still fun to read. Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. I always look forward to reading a Jill Shalvis book.. I know even before I finish the first page that I am going to LOVE the book.
