Escapism at it’s finest. Literally. The perfect title for a fun escape from the stresses of real life, with unique characters, a quaint village setting, some good laughs, and, of course, a strong Tessa Bailey spice level.

Hook, Line, and Sinker is the sequel to It Happened One Summer and follows Fox and Hannah’s story. It picks up where the first book drops off with these two – Fox seeming to have a big old crush on Hannah, and Hannah putting him squarely in the friend zone. Then Hannah comes to town for work, and ends up staying in Fox’s guest bedroom – to the concern of her sister and brother-in-law. But Hannah is adamant: she is very aware of Fox’s playboy status and won’t be falling for his charms. Plus she only sees him as a friend…

When I first picked up Hook, Line, and Sinker, I had so much on my plate I did NOT feel like I could read a whole book. The plan: read a few chapters of this rom-com to unwind, then come back to finish it later. What I got: an all night reading marathon.

Though this is a standard contemporary romance formula layout, I just loved the way the writing and characters pulled me in. I also loved that throughout the plot line, the character’s actions stay true to their character arc. You know when you get to that point towards the end of a contemporary romance where there is that last big hurdle or fight and most of the time one or both characters react in that bury-you-face-in-the-pillow-because-they-are-just-being-SO-stupid-to-further-the-plot? This time, that didn’t happen. Yes there’s a pivotal plot point. But instead of acting like stereotype characters, both Fox and Hannah’s actions are so on point with their arcs it just gives me all the happy feels inside because I feel like I KNOW these characters. Even when they DO do stupid things.. they make LOGICAL sense!

Overall, I really, really enjoyed disappearing into this book.
