“HEARTS OF BLUE was a page turner right from the start and it kept the pacing interesting that you can’t help but to be immersed in this story until you turn that last page. ”
~ Under the Covers

Ah the joy of reading an L.H. Cosway.  You know, I always go in doubting that I can enjoy every single one of her books.  And then that doubt immediately goes away because her writing and the way she develops her characters draws me in completely.  HEARTS OF BLUE was like that for me.  Even though this is not what I would consider the norm for her stories, it’s less over the top and out there in her characters and what they do but it’s still very unique an compelling in it’s understated way.

We met Karla and Lee in KING OF HEARTS.  She was the heroine’s roommate and Lee was the “criminal” that had helped her get some issues straightened out in that book.  Karla being a cop though didn’t want to give in to the obvious attraction between her and Lee, and Lee couldn’t help but flirt with her.

This story happens backtracking into the timeline of KING OF HEARTS and after the first few meetings between them.  I loved taking the journey with these characters.  I fell in love with Lee right along with Karla, maybe even faster.  He’s had a rough go in life and there are good reasons why he ended up where he did and in a position that is hard to get out of now.  A thief with strong ties to a local drug lord.  In fact all his brothers are involved in that family business.  And that’s the hardest thing for Karla, a cop in the straight and narrow, to deal with.  She can’t possibly get involved with someone that leads the life he does.  It goes against everything she tries to stand for.

It was so much fun to see their chemistry, their flirting, their sparring, and the inevitable fall into paths best not traveled.  These two were just PERFECT together, against all odds and common sense!  The fact that Lee is actually a really good cook and loves to feed Karla as well just made him even more perfect for me.  Yes, ladies.  He’s a bad boy with tats but also he cooks AND bakes.  SOLD!  Mine!  I manage to fall in love with every hero Ms. Cosway writes all for very different reasons.  Lee Cross is right up there with the best of them, and believe me I was not expecting that after meeting him in the previous book.

This story can be read as a standalone, but honestly I think you need to read every book in this series because every single one of them is top notch and extremely enjoyable.  Why would you want to miss them?  HEARTS OF BLUE was a page turner right from the start and it kept the pacing interesting that you can’t help but to be immersed in this story until you turn that last page.  I’m as always left wanting the next book to come immediately and I cannot wait for every single one of the Cross brothers to get an HEA!

EXCERPT

Lee didn’t answer, and instead he took a step forward, forcing me to back up if I didn’t want us to collide. The problem with this meant my back hit the wall a moment later.

“You’re so pretty, Snap,” he said, voice low, as he dropped his face to my hair and breathed in.

I wasn’t wearing a hat, and my hair was tied up in a bun. My entire body trembled when he wrapped his arms around my waist, inhaled deeply and pulled me into a hug. This was a distraction, I knew it, and yet, I let him distract me. I wanted to be distracted, and I was just glad that the blinds in his office had been pulled.

Standing in his embrace for at least a minute with silence all around us, I was unable to move. I liked having Lee close, loved the feel of him and how he could make feel so…surrounded. Despite all the warning signs, my attraction to him only grew stronger. There was just something about him that called to me.

“Lee.”

His mouth moved against my hair. “What is it, Karla?”

“Why are you hugging me?”

“You looked like you needed to be held.” His response was low, and the affectionate undertone had me swallowing deeply. At long last I summoned the willpower to break the hug. His arms fell away from me easily, my stomach churning with confusion. What the hell was I doing?

I stared at the floor when I spoke. “I have to go.”

Heading for the door, I paused when he said gently, “Hey, I needed it, too.”
