“I think I was expecting it to be more mature and this felt more like a new adult story where the characters are still not very centered.”
~ Under the Covers

So I picked up this book because it’s been a while since I’ve read an Erin McCarthy book and quite frankly, the premise of this one just called to me.  There’s so many rock star books out there but not too many about country stars and in particular one where the couple is also a singing duet.  Color me intrigued.

When we start off we quickly realize this is a second chance story where the couple has to work together on a new album after a pretty bad breakup at the end of their last tour.  At the beginning, I was right along for the ride.  There is sexy banter and the promise of interesting and sexy times to come.  With the added bonus of some anger mixed in to amp up the steam.  But I quickly realized my problem with the story.  Miscommunication.

This is a big pet peeve of mine and this book had it in spades.  For two people that are apparently great with words when they are writing hit music together, they sure can’t communicate.  Then or now.  To the point that they each thought the break up was for essentially different reasons!  This took away some of my enjoyment from this story.

There were other things about this couple that I enjoyed and kept me reading, and I liked the tone of the story in general.  I think I was expecting it to be more mature and this felt more like a new adult story where the characters are still not very centered.  I loved the premise though, and the different take on the music industry that we get to see.  It’s different than the usual, and that I enjoyed.  But will I continue the series?  I’m not sure yet.
