“I went into this one with the expectation of a sweet and romantic story and boy did Emma Chase deliver!”
~ Under the Covers

I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I heard about it and with barely glancing at the blurb.  That one glance at least told me this wouldn’t be one of those taboo student/teacher romances and that made me even more excited for it.  I went into this one with the expectation of a sweet and romantic story and boy did Emma Chase deliver!

Garrett was the star quarterback back in high school, he had his life and success figured out until tragedy strikes.  More than once.  He’s since adapted and made a very comfortable and happy life for himself.  He’s now the star coach and teacher at his old high school.  The only thing missing is love and he doesn’t seem to be too attached to anyone to care.  That is until the only woman he ever loved comes back to town.  Callie couldn’t wait to get out of their small town and chase the lights and success of the theater stage, but has to come back because of family for what she thinks is a short amount of time.

First of all… Garrett.  He’s not only the star everything at his high school, he’s a star book boyfriend.  You can’t help but fall in love for him and fall hard.  He didn’t come across as an alpha hero, but also not beta.  He falls somewhere in between and he’s just a nice guy.  Plus it helps that he’s so sexy and you can immediately tell he’s completely smitten with the heroine.  He truly made me want to be Callie.

The heroine on the other hand I took a little longer to warm up to.  Some of her actions came across as selfish to me and then when we realize the big reveal in the end I did feel bad for her and it made sense that she dealt with things the best way she thought she had.

As much as I really enjoyed this and it was such a fast and enjoyable read, the final conflict revealed which is actually what tore them apart years before was something I saw coming.  I was really hoping for a little more original plot point there.

Nevertheless, this was a great read.  It made me swoon and also it made me laugh.  I’ll definitely be on the lookout for the next book in this series.
