“I enjoyed Fighting for Devlin. It had plenty of sexy with a hint of danger.”
~ Under the Covers

I jumped at this book as soon as I saw it on Netgalley. I’ve enjoyed Jessica Lemmon’s Second Chance series, so naturally, I will take the opportunity to read her new books. This book is Ms. Lemmon’s first try at New Adult, and I think she did a good job overall.

Devlin is a bookie. No, not like an avid reader but one that handles the booking for gambling. He is well known and respected in this world. It’s not the most honest job, but he’s doing great in this career. Of course…until he meets a girl who would make him want to be a better man.
Rena Lewis has been mourning her boyfriend’s death for four years. The guilt of his death made her a recluse, but Devlin has his way of breaking that barrier. She just started working as a waitress in Devlin’s restaurant when she gets tangled with his dealings. Unfortunately, there is always a price when it comes to gambling and not everyone come out of unscathed.

Devlin sported the underground rich guy popular to the sport of gambling. Dangerous in so many ways yet you can tell something sad brews inside him. He was very intriguing. I found Devlin’s struggle to get out of the crooked life and to be a better person believable. Ms. Lemmon brought Rena to balance him with her good girl persona but also to bring her “naughty” out on the surface. I like the pairing she made here. As a whole, I enjoyed Fighting for Devlin. It had plenty of sexy with a hint of danger. I’m excited to see what Ms. Lemmon has next.
