I picked this up because it was on Kindle Unlimited and I saw a Bookstagrammer recommend it. Total impulse borrow! I mean, maybe the hot cover had something to do with that.
The Fake Boyfriend series is all about m/m fake relationships. Maddox left his small town and moved to NYC years ago. Back then he was dating his high school sweetheart and when he found himself with the pressure of marrying her, he thought there was no other way to break up with her than to tell her he was gay. She then told the whole town and now everyone thinks he is. But he actually liked women, he just never corrected them. When he runs into her at her bachelorette party in NYC she invites him AND his boyfriend to her wedding. Now he needs to find a boyfriend for the weekend.
There were many things about this story that I found cute and endearing. Maddox wasn’t necessarily top of that list though. I just didn’t get him. I mean, starting with the decision above of lying about his sexuality to get out of a relationship. Then the fact that he firmly believes he’s straight even after having had and enjoyed a physical “relationship” with a guy. I guess I found him really clueless. But he’s young, so I could forgive him in the end. Damon on the other hand was adorable. He’s already had a bad experience falling for a straight guy and he doesn’t want to repeat that.
These two are very cute together and the story is nice and a fast read. Some sexual tension as well. It has left me interested in reading the next one, since it was setup already in this one. And I also like the touch of sports that it has. In this book, Damon had to retire before his career really took off due to an injury and in the next one we actually have a pro athlete.
This was my first time reading Eden Finley and it was a good intro to her books even if maybe they won’t be my favorite m/m romances.

I definitely would have bought it just for the cover! However, it does seem interesting so that’s another good reason to try it.
