Marina Adair is one of my top go-to authors for contemporary romance novels and she persistently proves to be so with each book she writes. This second installment of Marina Adair’s Sequoia Lake series has heartbreaking bits that made my heart ache, and I loved the well-deserved happy ending. Adair wrote a story of love, loss, and second chances, and it was an amazing read.

Liv and Ford’s past experiences and current situation just touched my heart along with Knox, Liv’s MIL and the rest of secondary characters. Adair’s writing gives you a chance to get to know everyone in this town and I can’t help feel anything but adoration for all of them. Especially Liv and Ford.

I love Liv because of who she is. This good hearted woman who despite her hardships, still strives to be a better person, strives to work on her nursing career, and be the best mom she can be. After losing her husband a couple of years back, nothing has been easy for her but she is amazingly surviving with a gusto. Of course, after meeting a search-and-rescue officer who happens to have just moved in next door makes things complicated, but almost a relief that there could be life after being a widow.

Ford has his heart set to make sure Liv and Knox are well taken care of but from afar. His obligation to doing this gets more complicated when he comes to town for a temporary assignment. Getting to know each other is inevitable and following the single-mom rule is just harder to follow. They live in a small town after all. I love, love Ford. He’s your all-American hero whose heart will always be in the right place. He’s sweet, sexy, and super flirty.

The twists of the story were unexpected but it wasn’t a surprise. I like that Adair slowly informed her readers that there’s a connection there and that there are secrets that could ruin everything. Rest assured, there is a happy-ending that is well deserved. This book is a feel-good romance novel and perfect for a summer read.
