ARC Review: Easy Evenings by Mary Calmes

EASY EVENINGS is the fourth book in the Mangrove series. Lazlo and Britton’s story is kind of built upon in the other books so when you begin this book, it almost feels as if you are already in the middle of the story. I should state that all these books are novellas so everything happens at an incredibly fast pace. While I didn’t mind that in the other books, it did feel a little bit choppy in this one.

Laz is rent boy and he loves what he does. That is actually how Britton and him meet, but when one wants more than the other can give, that’s where their relationship seems to falter. Britton places a restraining order against Laz. It’s kind of funny actually but when their paths cross once again when Laz learns that he is a father to a three-year-old girl named Katherine, well, his life begins to change is a big way.

As always, all the characters are very likeable and endearing. I don’t know how but Mary Calmes is always able to make me fall in love with her characters in an instant. But with everything that was happening in this story, it did seem to unfold too quickly for my liking. Laz doesn’t really struggle all that much with learning he is a father. In fact, he seems to take it in strides.

The same goes with the romance. While complicated at first, it’s easy to see that both guys are crazy for each other. The sex scenes are intensely hot and I believe that this is the first time we see a hero who is more dominant in bed from Mary Calmes.

So apart from wanting this story be to a little longer so we could get to know the characters more, I still think EASY EVENINGS is worth checking out if you’re a Mary Calmes fan.
