Although Cassie is living behind the thick fences she knows she isn’t safe. She knows that the zombies and the hellhounds could break through and take away her daughter. After losing her husband and young son she knows she would do anything to keep her remaining child safe. Including hooking up with one of the fey. She knows being under the fey’s protection is about as safe as you can get in this new terrifying world. But, with so much to lose falling in love is almost as terrifying as the teeth of a hellhound.

I have loved this series so far, but when I read the blurb of this one I was a little hesitant. I didn’t like the idea of someone using my gorgeous, beautifully innocent, fey for their own ends. I shouldn’t have worried, I quickly warmed to both the story and the characters.

I know that Cassie is the kind of heroine a lot of readers won’t like, in fact I half expected not to like her myself. However, I found I admired her. She was doing what she had to to keep her children save in this harsh new world. It had hardened her a little, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t without empathy. I liked it. It fit with the world that Haag had built. Special snowflakes aren’t going to survive long!

As for Kerr, these fey…it’s like Haag went into my brain discovered exactly what I love and then wrote her heroes to accommodate my fantasies. I fall in love with every single one of them. I am making them form an orderly queue as they fill my book boyfriend basement. Kerr was sweet and patient, adorable with kids. Fierce and protective. And hot as hell. All at once, I was a goner.

Another great book in this series and I can’t wait to read more. If you’re a fan of Ruby Dixon and Laurann Dohner this is the perfect series for you.
