“I think this is a good series to try if you’re looking for a more easier mystery read or perhaps you’re just getting into cozy mysteries.”
~ Under the Covers

DANGLING BY A THREAD is the first book of the Mainely Needlepoint that I’ve read of the series but it’s the fourth book in the actual series. As you can expect this series is set in Maine so it has a little bit of a small town feel to it. It also has a very quiet heroine who is although smart, Angie Curtis is probably the more laidback type of amateur sleuth. I think this also has to do with Lea Wait’s writing style. It’s much more slower in pace and the events tend to unravel slower.

For example, the murder of Jesse Lockhart doesn’t happen until the middle point of the book. Therefore, the first half of the book is a lot of chatting, a lot of setting up the scene. While I still found myself enjoying this book a lot, I was growing a little impatient in terms of getting the story started. Luckily, I liked all the characters in the story so I wasn’t too upset with spending a lot of time with them. However, it does slow the pace down quite a bit and doesn’t leave much space for complex storylines. That’s why I think this is a good series to try if you’re looking for a more easier mystery read or perhaps you’re just getting into cozy mysteries.

While not my favorite of the recent mysteries that I’ve tried, I’m still definitely looking forward to reading more of Lea Wait’s books.
