“We definitely need more heroes like Steve!”
~ Under the Covers

Although CRUSHING ON LOVE is the fourth book in The Bradens at Peaceful Harbor series, this is only the second book I’ve read in this series. This book can easily work as a standalone, but you will probably want to read all of them anyways, especially if you like more rugged heroes and small-town romances.

My favorite part of this book is easily the hero. The Colorado Mountains is where Steve Johnson feels the safest. He’s a bit of a recluse and he doesn’t care about things like the Internet or what people think of him. For me, Steve is a breath of fresh air in terms of hero characterization. You often find charmers in Contemporary Romance and although Steve does have his moments, the guy is a little more rougher and gruffer than most males you encounter. He’s a nice counterpart to the heroine, Shannon Braden who is essentially everything Steve is not.

I never thought I would fall for a man named Steve, but there’s something undeniably sexy about his roughness. But when he tries to fight his attraction to Shannon, it becomes a losing battle as her charm overtakes him. I really loved Shannon as well. She is fun, flirty, and her confidence is what brings this romance to life. I think if Shannon wasn’t as strong a character as she is, the romance would falter because Steve is just so stubborn about being alone. Shannon almost softens him, and it’s a really sweet story to read. We definitely need more heroes like Steve!
