“This series was a nice departure from her usual worlds that she writes, but I do hope that if she does try to write Fantasy again that she also tries adjusting her writing style so that it fits with the genre more.”

CRUSH THE KING is the third installment in the Crown of Shards series by Jennifer Estep. This series has some really fantastic elements to it that initially made me very excited. While I have enjoyed the first two books in the series, I was hoping for a little bit more of an exciting premise for this one. I don’t normally say this about Estep’s writing because she can usually pen a really fun read, but for some reason, I struggled with this one a bit more.
I’m not sure if it was because I wasn’t connecting with the characters in the ways I thought I would, but I just found myself putting down the book a little more often than usual.
The fantasy elements that usually capture my attention didn’t this time and I think it was more because I just I was growing a bit tired of the world. I do think there are some interesting parts, but I just didn’t like this book as much as the others.
Since this is the end of the trilogy, I’m wondering what Estep has planned next. This series was a nice departure from her usual worlds that she writes, but I do hope that if she does try to write Fantasy again that she also tries adjusting her writing style so that it fits with the genre more.

Sorry this one didn’t work for you Annie
I really enjoyed this one, I listened to the audiobook.
I’ve been reading similar reviews for this so I have lowered my expectations a bit. Hopefully, this will help when I get to it.
