Do you ever look at a series and promise yourself that you will read it…eventually? Well that’s how how Francesca and I (Suzanne) have been feeling about the In Death series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). It’s been on both of our TBRs for so long and yet remained relatively untouched. The problem with much loved series like In Death is that it’s got a lot of hype. So many people love the books and all the characters. It’s a little daunting to take on the weight of that expectation. Also there’s the length! Have you seen how many books are in the series? It’s on book 48. That’s a lot of books to get through.
But, we aren’t going to try and get through all 48 books this year. Instead we are taking it slow and aim to read one book a month, getting us to book 12 by December. We will update you on our progress on social media as we read, in our wrap up videos at the end of the month and in a monthly post articulating our thoughts on the book.
This month we are tackling the seventh book in the series Holiday in Death.

What were your overall thoughts about this book?
Suzanne: I feel like I am repeating myself but…I loved it. It may be my favourite book so far in the series. I loved the Christmas theme, I loved how much of my gal Officer Peabody was involved and I loved that the murder mystery aspect of it was so intense and riveting. Each book in this series seems to deliver more and more.
Francesca: I’m also always repeating myself LOL Reading this series has been the best thing that happened this year! So about this book, I looooooved it. Like Suzanne, this may be my fave. The Christmas theme was perfect, the mystery was interesting and Peabody stole the show. I’m ready for that side romance to develop. Really, everything about this book was perfection and it managed to have the holiday spirit amongst dead bodies and a serial killer. I loved how Eve ended up finishing her Christmas shopping while handling the investigation. 😉
The mystery aspect of the book, did it keep you hooked?
Suzanne: Hell. Yes. I love a Christmas thriller story and this one covered that nicely. It kept me guessing and led you in a lot of different directions. It kept the reader on their toes with their hands clutching the book to see what happens next.
Francesca: Yes! I find with some of the books in this series I can figure things out rather quickly and others keep me guessing or at least questioning. This was one of those that kept me questioning and I really enjoyed that.
Eve and Roarke, thoughts and feelings!
Suzanne: What I loved about this book was that it really showed what an ongoing journey this series is. We see the aftermath of the events which occurred in Vengeance in Death and how they are affection Eve and Roarke. It shows their relationship just get stronger and stronger as they battle through so many trials together.
Francesca: I can appreciate the growth of the relationship between Eve and Roarke. It’s amazing how it keeps exploring different sides of how they fit together and there’s still so much more to go. Don’t we all need a Roarke of our own?
Did you do audiobook, ebook or book?
Suzanne: eBook!
Francesca: Audio
How would you rate Holiday in Death?
Suzanne: 5 stars! This is my favourite so far…I know, I say it every time!
Francesca: I went with 4.5 stars for this one. Maybe a close second or third fave LOL
How are you feeling about starting the next book in the series Conspiracy in Death?
Suzanne: As usual I am excited! They keep getting better and better and so I am expecting great things.
Francesca: Same, so excited.

I’m doing the same thing as you guys and trying (operative word) to read one book per month. I also read Holiday in Death this month and felt similarly as you guys! I am still mind-boggled that there are 48 and counting! Someone told me to read the novella Midnight in Death after Holiday in Death (it is numbered 7.5 on GR) so I am going to try to fit that in before the end of the year too.
I just started this series last month and I’m on book 5.
This is definitely one of my favorites in the series with eve/roarke, peabody, the mystery and the Christmas shopping!
I’m in the midst of a re-read of the in Death series too – I’m up to book #16 – then took a break – and I just got Nora’s newest release Rise of the Magicks
I haven’t read any of them
