Author Override is the place where authors take the reins and take you on a journey into their world. Some may allow you into their private writing dens. Others may take you along with them on research trips or interviews. Whatever the case may be, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because here youโ€™ll get an in-depth look into an authorโ€™s musings.

Cari Quinn

Thank you for having me here today! No Flowers Required is a book that came about completely unexpectedly. I didnโ€™t intend on writing Alexaโ€™s story until I wrote No Dress Required (I remember hurriedly typing a few words at Tim Hortonโ€™s before work!) and then โ€œType Aโ€ Alexa started making her presence known. Still I had no idea what her story would be until a trip to a local hardware store gave me an idea. I love hardware storesโ€”they have their own smell, and theyโ€™re often bustling with activity and promise of all those possible projectsโ€”and suddenly Iโ€™d created my own hardware store: Value Hardware, for when you need a tool that rules. (Isnโ€™t that just the kind of dorky slogan stores come up with nowadays? )

The next thing I knew I had Dillon and Cory, brothers whoโ€™d been fighting from their own sides of the fence for so long that there was more tension between them than love. And then Dillon meets Alexa and sparks flyโ€ฆamidst plumbing projects, of course!

Dillon and Alexa were so fun to write about and one of the reasons was because theyโ€™re such opposites in so many ways. They also enjoy getting up to naughty activities in places they shouldnโ€™tโ€”from rooftops in the rain to outdoors in the the sunshine!

Check out the blurb and excerpt below, then be sure to enter the NO FLOWERS REQUIRED themed giveaway! You can win all sorts of fun stuff inspired by the book! Also, Iโ€™d love to hear your answer to this question: you get a night with a sexy stranger. Which would you pickโ€”the physical guy who is very good with his hands or the businessman in a suit, whose eyes suggest he might be as skilled in bedroom as in the boardroom? (Yep, those descriptions fit Dillon and Cory!)

Heโ€™ll give her everything she desiresโ€ฆexcept his identity.

Flower shop owner Alexa Conroy had it all before the recession hit and her customers fled to cheaper shopping grounds. Desperate to make ends meet, she sells her dream home and moves into the rundown apartments above her shop. When she spots six feet of sexy distractionโ€”complete with muscles, piercings, and tattoosโ€”ripping up flooring, Alexa knows the karmic windfall sheโ€™s due just landed on her doorstep.

And the attractionโ€™s definitely not one-sided.

Dillon James, reluctant heir to the corporation about to foreclose on Alexaโ€™s shop, is not about to jeopardize their scorching chemistry by admitting heโ€™s not the buildingโ€™s handyman. But with only weeks until her business goes under and his identity is revealed, Dillon must find a way to convince Alexa cooperation isnโ€™t a dirty word, help her save the shop from his brotherโ€™s greed, and persuade her that heโ€™s not the enemyโ€ฆor risk losing the only woman whoโ€™s seen the real him.

EXCERPT – R-RATED

Alexa moved whip-fast, slamming her hands on Dillonโ€™s chest and him against the door before his brain caught up. The watering can clattered onto the ground. She spared it a brief, puzzled glance, then fisted her hands in his T-shirt and arched up, her mouth coming closerโ€”

Fuck it.

He fused his mouth to hers, and dammit, it was even better than heโ€™d expected. She didnโ€™t yield to him but struggled a bit, as if she was shocked heโ€™d taken over. That made it even hotter. He slanted his lips over hers when her startled squeak granted him access to the warm sweetness inside. Perfect. He took full advantage of her surprise to explore her with long, slow licks of his tongue.

Maybe his head couldnโ€™t compute what was happening, but his body sure could. He cupped her ass and rocked his hips against hers, all too aware of his violent reaction to her nearness. His dick still hadnโ€™t recovered from their bump-and-grind in her bathroom and apparently had no trouble asserting its readiness to play. Recovered now, she didnโ€™t shy away, and instead rubbed against him, her curves sliding against him in a way that had him groaning and pulling back so hard he thunked his head on the closed door.

He couldnโ€™t do this. Oh, God, he had to. She was going wild against him, and he didnโ€™t have any defenses against his hunger for her. Not when he wanted nothing more than this. Just this.

โ€œWhat are we doing?โ€ he managed as she dragged her lips down his Adamโ€™s apple. Stars danced in his vision and hell if he knew if they were from the head jolt or from their kiss.

She didnโ€™t answer him, just skated her hands down his torso and under his shirt. And what hands they were. She seemed to be touching him everywhere. He clung to her ass as if she was his only port in the storm, and sure enough, a bolt of lightning sizzled overhead followed by a crack of thunder. But Alexa never paused. Heโ€™d become her canvas and her fingers were her paintbrush. She sketched every ridge of muscle, every line of bone. And then the column of his cock, wedged tight into his jeans. She touched him with confidence and skill, the kind that would soon have him driving his hands into her hair and pushing her to her knees if she didnโ€™t stop.

But a woman like her wasnโ€™t meant for a quick fuck against a door, even if that was what she acted like she wanted. Even if he longed for her so much that he didnโ€™t care about anything but stealing this moment and making it theirs. He must be misreading her signals, though he was pretty adept at picking up sexual cues. Or else heโ€™d sent some crazy ones of his own.

โ€œAlexa.โ€ Though it took all his faculties just to get out that one word, she ignored him. Completely.

She cupped him and nipped his jaw, her teeth offering a sharp counterpoint to her palmโ€™s soft touch. His shaft lurched in her hold and she let out a delighted purr.

โ€œLex,โ€ he tried again, her name ending in a moan.

โ€œYou donโ€™t know who I am.โ€ He expected her to stiffen, to look up at him with those huge bluebell eyes heโ€™d gone a little nuts for the first time heโ€™d looked at her. She didnโ€™t.

โ€œAlexa, listen to me.โ€ He wrapped her braid around his hand and tugged up her head, something sharp dislodging inside him the instant their gazes clashed. In the waning light, he could just make out the lust on her finely boned face. It transformed her somehow, changed her from someone he should protectโ€”from himโ€”into a woman he needed at all costs. โ€œYou donโ€™t understand.โ€

She didnโ€™t. Hell, at the moment, he didnโ€™t either. Because he didnโ€™t feel like he was lying or hiding anything. He wanted to strip away the barriers between them, and this was the best way he knew how. Words were unnecessary, the language of miscommunication. Kisses and long looks and sultry touchesโ€”that was the truth, and she was the only one he could share it with.

Right now who he really was didnโ€™t matter. She knew the important stuff. He was a guy. She was a woman. Certain areas were meant to fit together.Who even cared who his family was? Maybe she really didnโ€™t even hate the hardware store. Maybe she had a secret girl-crush on it and went in there every day to fondle all the trusty hammers and sawsโ€ฆ

Yep, he needed help. The kind heโ€™d find alone by himself, far, far from distractions with anklets and eyes as big as moons.

โ€œYou donโ€™t understand,โ€ she whispered, gripping the back of his neck. She was tall for a woman, and even in flats she could reach all the important parts with only a modicum of stretching. โ€œI donโ€™t want to know who you are. I donโ€™t care. All I want is for you to make me come.โ€

Tough choice but I think I’ll pick the physical one who is good with his hands. Would love to feel his arms and those toned biceps. Already envious of Alexa ๐Ÿ˜›

  14. Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Thanks so much for visiting with me!

LOL, I agree with those who’ve wanted both the physical guy and the guy in the suit. That *would* be the best of both worlds!

Foretta, right now I think the series will be 4-5 books in total. I have ideas beyond book 4, but writing additional books will depend on how the series fares with readers. ๐Ÿ™‚
