“It’s truly some of her finest and most unpredictable writing. ”
~ Under the Covers
I’ve raved about Cari Silverwood’s Dark Hearts series and its conclusion, Wicked Hunt, has me singing her praises once again. It’s truly some of her finest and most unpredictable writing. At the conclusion of the last installment, Zoire is on the run, a woman on a mission to stamp out as many mesmers as she can get her hands on. Her ultimate target is the collector who took her beloved friend Cherie. Hot on her heels are Mavros and Grimm, unlikely partners, bound by a woman they both can’t seem to shake their connection to. Grimm thinks it’s love. Mavros doesn’t know the meaning of the word. Zoire knows she can’t run forever and Grimm needs their help. The solution won’t come easy. In the end, the answer is what we’re least expecting.
I’ve got to hand it to Ms. Silverwood. I’ve been a fan of hers for years, a fan of dark erotica in general, and she never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat, panting, dying to know the next twist in the story. Dark Hearts has been some of her darkest writing. The squeamish should take note. There are hints of erotic horror that come to a head in book two, Wicked Weapon. Where I was truly surprised was how this series evolved and came full circle. Wicked Hunt is a more in depth character exploration, an even more detailed glimpse into Mavros’ head, especially, which I really enjoyed. I’ve been drawn to his character from the beginning, saw a kernel of goodness, and I was eager to see him open up, see his usual cold and collected demeanor begin to show cracks of emotion. Grimm’s deterioration (I don’t want to spoil it further) and Zoire’s determination to fight for him, her loyalty, stood out. She’s one kick ass character, never weak, but vulnerable in all the right places. I loved seeing these three work together as a team, and not just in the action scenes. They burn up the sheets together as well. And one name. WOLFE. The spin off should in INSANE. Long-time fans of Ms. Silverwood’s dark erotica will know what I mean when I say that the ending was not at all what I expected. I was blown away, giddy and smiling. There can’t be darkness without light. These are characters that I will remember for a long time to come. This is among the most unique series I can remember getting my hands on. I can’t wait to see the world continue through Wolfe’s eyes.
