ARC Review + Tour: Take A Chance by Abbi Glines

TAKE A CHANCE is the first in Grant and Harlow’s stories from Abbi Glines’ Rosemary Beach series. From the very first book in the series where Blaire aims her gun at Grant, he has been one of those characters I’ve been dying to know about. If you’ve read this series already, then you know that Glines is a fan of family drama and intense and passionate sex scenes. TAKE A CHANCE possesses all these things – and a few more surprises as well.

Harlow Manning is a sweet, intelligent and kind girl who gets thrown into Florida where she lives with her awful- and I mean AWFUL step-sister Nan. I’m sure fans of this series will share my opinion on Nan’s character. She has to be the most vile, selfish, annoying and manipulative being ever – and Glines makes good use of her.

Grant has been with Nan in the past, even after having taken Harlow’s virginity. Now while I did find Grant to be the most interesting part of the book in the first half, he also made a lot of mistakes that made me not like him too. As a known player, Grant has a reputation with the ladies. So when he meets Harlow and gets bitten by the love bug, he doesn’t know how to react. In the short amount of time since the last book, readers learn of his state of internal turmoil and poor decision making, which results in the breaking of Harlow’s heart. For much of the book, Grant is trying to convince her – and himself – that he is worthy of her love.

Towards the end, Glines throws in a series of twists and turns that make for a great ride. However, because of the severity of the Harlow’s situation, sometimes I felt that the sex scenes were out of place. As I was reeling with the info dump Glines just spilled, Grant and Harlow are going at it, quite enthusiastically, I may add and it sometimes detracted from the other parts of the book that required emotions other than lust and love.

TAKE A CHANCE ends of a cliffhanger, leaving readers on the precipice of pleasure. If you’re willing to love and hate a book in equal measures, then TAKE A CHANCE will be the book for you. With frustratingly flawed, but real characters, Glines tells wickedly addicting stories that will have readers begging for more.
