“Passion and intensity are never in short order with Sylvain Reynard’s books. Be prepared for a darker, sinful side of the author with the Florentine series.” ~ Under the Covers

Sylvain Reynard takes a different turn in the Florentine series, this time adding a darker tone to his eloquent and decadent writing. Set in the beautiful backdrop of Italy, Raven Wood restores Renaissance art at the Uffizi gallery. On her way home, she stops the senseless beating of a homeless man before the attack turns on her. Her rescuer is as scary as her attacker but she is still ever grateful for his help.

But something strange starts to happen. No one recognized her and when news of a stolen Botticelli illustration coincides with her disappearance, Raven becomes the prime suspect.

Reynard’s writing is exceptionally driven by this mystery, adding intrigue and action where you least expect it. I think readers will be surprised by the change in his writing, but will undoubtedly enjoy the ride that the author takes us on.

As mentioned earlier, Reynard’s writing is exceptional well done. Rife with rich descriptions and beautiful imagery, this book almost reminds me of a decadent cake with layers and layers of deliciousness you want to devour. However, the rich descriptions can be a double-edged sword. Too much of it can slow the book down and really hinder the reading experience when the pacing needs to be on point. Several times I felt like the book dragged in favor of creating more depth where there was already so much of it. I think with a more action-oriented series such as this one, a balance needs to be made.

Passion and intensity are never in short order with Sylvain Reynard’s books. Be prepared for a darker, sinful side of the author with the Florentine series.
