THE PRINCE’S POISONED VOW is everything an epic fantasy is supposed to be.
~ UNDER THE COVERS BOOK BLOG
This was one of my most anticipated fantasy books of the year! I’ve loved Hailey Turner’s urban fantasy books in the past and I was ready to dive into a new world by her. She definitely delivers on everything I have come to expect from her. Amazing world building, engaging characters and a great plot!
An epic fantasy filled with political intrigue, betrayals and … zombies! Now I should also give you a warning. If you are looking for a simple story, this isn’t it. There are many POVs in this story, think J.R. Ward but more. That also leads to multiple romance threads. It was not hard for me to follow, but I certainly cared more for some characters than others so I found myself getting a bit more distracted at times when we were reading about the characters I wasn’t as invested in. And second, if you’re looking for a fantasy romance just know that even though there’s multiple couples and romance is an important part of the story it isn’t romance heavy in my opinion.
I grew a lot more attached to the m/m pairings in this book, Soren and Vanya and Blaine and Honovi. But I’m intrigued to find out more about the f/f pairing, Eimarille and Terilyn, as well as the m/f pairing Caris and Nathaniel.
There’s a lot to unpack in this book! Morally grey characters, sacrifice, honor, lies, family, love. I found this world fascinating and loved uncovering the layers as the story progressed. I was on the edge of my seat at times.
THE PRINCE’S POISONED VOW is everything an epic fantasy is supposed to be and I can’t wait to see where this world takes us next.
