ARC Review: The Place I Belong by Inez Kelley

One of the things I love about Kelley’s writing is that it’s so easy to read. There is never any strain, never any effort. The pacing is perfection and the dialogue is always very tightly written. ~ Under the Covers

THE PLACE I BELONG is book two in the Country Roads series and features Zury and Jonah.

Black Cherry Falls has become Zury’s whole life. She takes great pride in her work and she won’t allow a cocky PR man like Jonah to destroy everything she believes in. Much like Ruthie’s Knox’s Roman Holiday serial, this book puts two opposing figures together and lets them battle it out over their environmental beliefs. Their banter is entertaining and very much sets up this entire book. Both deeply passionate about what they stand for, you know it’s going to be a tough fight for them to get what they want.

Kelley has done her research and she has done it so well. I found that the level of detail in this book definitely adds a layer of authenticity to this story. However, at the same time, I think the same level of detail can bog down the story a little bit. As someone who knows virtually nothing on the topic and to be honest, has very little interest in it, too much details can weigh the story down and there were a few scenes in there that I thought really flew over my head because of that. For another reader, this might be the best part of the book though. So I think depending on your level of interest, it may or may not work for you.

In the first book of the series, I found the conflict to be very interesting and that kept me very entertained. While I don’t find this story particularly dull or anything like that, I do believe I became weary of the trees and the forest acting almost like a third character. There is so much emphasis on it, it detracts a little from the romance.
