“THE PECULIAR PETS OF MISS PLEASANCE is another great example of the talent Ms. Dawson has.  Freakishly good! ” ~Under the Covers

THE PECULIAR PETS OF MISS PLEASANCE is another great example of the talent Ms. Dawson has.  Freakishly good!  We are introduced to Frannie Pleasance, owner and shopkeeper of a pet store in times when everyone has clockworks instead.  She is that ray of hope that has sort of dimmed because of the world she lives in but she still holds a piece of that with her.

She rescues Casper, sort of, off the London streets and offers him to rent her brothers’ room.  He reminds her of her dead brother, which might be the connection that drives her to help him.  That and her all around good nature.  But Casper is bad news and brings with him problems for Miss Pleasance and her pets.

No, you might be thinking now that Casper and Miss Pleasance would be an item, but here’s where you are (and I was) wrong).  We have one sexy Scottish firefighter who comes to her rescue when times get tough.  Kilt and all!  I’m not kidding!  Holy fires was Thom hot.  Casper and his crush on Frannie, and Thom maybe more than crushing on her, they both try to keep her safe.

I’ve come to expect to be scared of this world when I read it, but this wasn’t exactly scary.  I think it may have been that Frannie sort of lives in her own bubble in this world and there wasn’t a lot of interactions with any baddies….except THE BLUDRATS!  Vicious little things!  I needed more of it!

This was definitely the perfect preamble to Casper’s book WICKED AS THEY COME.  We see his struggles and get to know him just a little more….and then realize we don’t know him at all.  I cannot wait to read his story!  You know how I love me a bad boy! 😉
