…it had a love story that managed to tug on my heart strings, a plot that kept me engrossed and a world and characters that just keeps getting richer the more you read.” ~ Under the Covers

Ariq has discovered who Zenobia is, but he still needs to uncover all her secrets, as well as win her heart, as she has surely managed to steal his. But he has a plan, her walls will fall under his sensual assault and she will learn to trust him and tell him all her secrets. But, as well as the battle to win Zenobia’s heart, Ariq must also discover who is threatening Kraken town and stop their plot before a new war begins.

I confess I waited till all parts of this serial were out before I read them; it was so painful to stop at the third one last time! And it was well worth the wait, I loved it, Meljean Brooks sucked back into the world of the Iron Seas with ease and I couldn’t stop reading until I had finished every word of The Kraken King.

I can’t work out what I liked more, the romance between Zenobia and Ariq or the exciting world Brook has created, full of such intrigue and originality. I may have to say the romance, when a man as strong and wily as Ariq thrown in front of you, why resist? I loved his attack on Zenobia’s”walls”, as he calls them, desperate to win her trust and her love, especially when he seemed to have no idea that she was already defenseless against him. And Zenobia, it isn’t often that I like a heroine as much as the hero, but I loved seeing Zenobia grow from writing about her brother’s adventures, to having her own. It also helped that Ariq and Zenobia together were hot, the connection between them was tangible and the sex scenes were sensual.

I enjoyed seeing more of the world Meljean Brook has created as well, I love the way it is original, yet familiar as the figures and things we know from history are put slightly off kilter, giving us something new and exciting to explore. The Kraken King had an interesting and intricate plot, and I enjoyed reading not only to see Ariq and Zenobia get togther, but also to see what evil schemes were afoot.

I really enjoyed this book, it had a love story that managed to tug on my heart strings, a plot that kept me engrossed and a world and characters that just keeps getting richer the more you read. If you pick up one book this summer, make sure it is The Kraken King.
