ARC Review: The Dark Seduction of Miss Jane by Amanda McIntyre

Miss Jane Goodwin has come to London after the disastrous ending of her betrothal, but she comes not only to escape the scandal but also to fulfill her dream of being an investigative journalist. And, when she discovers that there are currently some grisly murders taking place, Jane is determined to investigate, despite being warned off by the darkly handsome Inspector Randolph Mansfield. However, the murders lead her down a dark and seductive path, one that could lead to her death…

I admit, what first attracted me to this book was the beautiful cover, but I am glad that I am led by such superficial things as I did like this book. The Dark Seduction of Miss Jane was packed full of danger, sensuality and murder, which sets it apart from a lot of other historical romances that I have read.

Jane was an interesting character, beautiful yet ambitious and curious, she was determined to help with the investigation and find out all the facts. So determined that it leads her to a place where respectable young ladies wouldn’t go and being seduced by someone she never expected to be in such a dark place. Randolph, Inspector Mansfield, is perfect if you like your heroes packed full of angst, personally I am not a big fan of that, but I can appreciate his intensity and good looks. From the start the two of them had fantastic chemistry, you could see their attraction towards one another and it was explored really well.

In regards to the mystery…I enjoyed it and I liked that the plot line was as important as the romance, but, I correctly guessed the culprit about half way through and so although there was a lot of red herrings, I wasn’t entirely convinced so it took a lot of the suspense out for me. But, that didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the ride and if I hadn’t guessed, I liked that suspicion was cast on a lot of characters, so you were never quite sure who to trust.

This was a great book with brooding and seductive atmosphere that pulls you directly into the story. If you are looking for a historical which is little bit dark and sexy with a juicy Jack the Ripperesque murder chucked in, then this is the read for you.
