If you like your books full of adventures, interesting devices and a bit of magic than you will definitely enjoy this ~ Under the Covers
When Lucien Dredmore asks Miss Charmian “Kit” Kittredge to speak to a client, she should have known it would be far more complex than she expected. Especially when that client is Lady Eugenia Bestly the woman who tried, unsuccessfully, to run her out of town and ruin her name when she was younger. But, it seems there is a beast, a wolfman, rampaging through town and killing innocents and Lady Bestly’s recently deceased husband is supposedly the culprit. But, when more wolfmen appear it seems that there may be more to the beasts than it first appears.
This series continues to pull me in, its mixture of a feisty heroine, interesting plots and a bit of romance has me enthralled. Set in an alternate America, I love all the steampunk elements that come through and also how it mixes in with the magic that Viehl has included in to her books.
What I enjoy reading about most though is Viehl’s character, which she continues to build in this book and we learn more about both Kit and her friends. Sometimes Kit does some crazy (stupid?) things and dives in to danger when I know I would be running and screaming in the opposite direction, but then again what kind of heroine would she be if she just relied on the men to bungle in and try and save the day? Not that the men of Kit’s acquaintance seem the bungling sort, we have a love triangle blossoming between Kit, Lucien and Kit’s childhood friend and now police detective Tommy. I am not normally a fan of love triangles, but it seems obvious who Kit will eventually pair up with, but you never know Viehl may have surprise in store for us.
But romance isn’t the main focus of The Clockwork Wolf, we have a compelling mystery and a race against time to save the city creating a fast paced and exciting book, which I couldn’t put down. If you like your books full of adventures, interesting devices and a bit of magic than you will definitely enjoy this. At times, like in the previous book I did find myself scratching my head wondering what exactly was going on, but it didn’t hinder my enjoyment, as I did eventually catch up!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series, I really want to see which man Kit will chose and I can’t wait to see what exciting adventure she will embroil herself into next.
