ARC Review: The Clockwork Dagger by Beth Cato

Miss Octavia Leander is a medician, a healer, in a corrupt and war torn kingdom her talents are rare and the strength of her power even rarer. But Octavia has found a post in a village struck with disease and is determined to get there and save them, however, she must first survive the journey. Not everyone on her air ship is what they appear from her cabin mate to the steward and a series of dangerous events and attempted murder convince Octavia that someone on the ship is out to kill her, the only question is who?

Steampunk is fast becoming a genre that I love, it’s amazing what the introduction of a few air ships and a bit of old fashioned technology can do to get authors imaginations revving up. I have seen steampunk paired up with zombies, werewolves, vampires and now Beth Cato has introduced me to a little steampunk and fantasy blend, brimming with magic and adventure and I enjoyed every page.

The Clockwork Dagger packed in a lot of action, world-building, intrigue and a dash of romance into one book and once the book gets going we tumble from attempted murder to mayhem making this fast paced and exciting. I am a romance lover at heart though and I did enjoy the stolen moments between Octavia and the mysterious yet seemingly gallant steward Alonzo Garrett, they were incredibly sweet and very romantic and I can’t wait to see their wooing carry on into the next book.

Anyone who is a fan of authors like Maria V Snyder and Trudi Canavan, much like myself, than you will definitely like this it has that same feel of magic mixed with some adventure and romance that both authors excel at. The Clockwork Dagger was a really good read and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
