“Ms. Lake put together a dark story of love, corruption, abuse, and retribution. It is a very complicated mix but all very well done. If a dark read is what you seek, this is the book for you.” ~ Under the Covers

Ms. Lake put together a dark story of love, corruption, abuse, and retribution. It is a very complicated mix but all very well done. If a dark read is what you seek, this is the book for you.

Nick Ryder has been out for revenge and he’s been planning carefully for a few years now. It’s time to put things in motion but getting to know the wife of the man responsible for his misery was very unexpected. Things are not what they seem and it this changes everything.

Aubree Culling is the wife of a man with higher stature in the City of Detroit. She plays her role well as his wife in the public eye but no one knows the real life she has to live when nobody’s looking. Mentally and physically abused and she fears that her only escape from this is taking her own life but even that is not in her control.

I will tell you right now that this very dark genre is not my typical read. In fact, I usually run from books such as this. Because I loved Keri Lake’s previous books, I stepped out of my comfort zone and braved it. My trust for her work did not disappoint but I will be honest with you, I did not expect how dark this book really is. I cringed at the abusive scenes and a couple of times had to stop reading to compose myself.
That being said, I still enjoyed every bit of this book. It was fast paced, action packed, sexy but be forewarned; it is not for the faint of heart. It has graphic violence, explicit language, kidnapping, rape and a very unorthodox kind of relationship. My favorite part was the twists that connects the mindblowing ending to the very sad beginning…totally unexpected.

About Keri Lake

Keri Lake is a married mother of two. She writes fiction in the genres of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. A graduate of Michigan State University (go green!), Keri holds 2 degrees in science but would gladly trade them both to pursue her true passion for writing. She's a flash fiction addict and a sucker for sexy men with wings.

When she isn’t toiling away on plots and protagonists, she enjoys reading, music and travel. If she could create mystical powers for herself, she’d have the ability to flash to anywhere in the world. And if she could flash to anywhere in the world at this very moment, she’d be staring at the ocean from her adirondack chair on the shores of North Carolina.

Go ahead and friend me, I love meeting new readers and talking books

  1. Thanks for the review. I have reluctant to get this book because of the “dark” theme. I have enjoyed her Sons of Wrath series.

  2. This is on my TBR list. I was interested in the reactions of my trusted bloggers to this book. I like a good dark book, but in small doses. I blame my enjoyment of these books on Batman. It looks like I’ll be picking this one up.

  3. Thank you so much for taking a chance on this one, Angela ❤ I know it’s not an easy read 😉 And thank you for sharing Ricochet on your blog!

  4. I want to read this book, because seriously, the cover makes it look VERY interesting. Sadly, sometimes that’s all it takes for me to pick it up and read the back. LOL

  5. YAY! It’s finally here. Angela rec’d this author to me and I am so glad she did. Cannot wait to read this!

  6. I’m all for supporting MI authors, even if they moved or not. And the book’s setting. Yeah, I know that place.
