ARC Review: Real by Katy Evans

If you’re looking for a mature New Adult series that has a smoking hot hero and follows a sports theme, then this is one you should pick up. Steamy doesn’t cover it and Remy “Riptide” Tate may just steal your hearts!  ~ Under the Covers

There was a lot of buzz surrounding this book so I jumped at the chance at reading it.  I can immediately see the appeal. The hero Remington is a hot – and I mean, super burn-your-finger, melt-your-panties hot MMA fighter who is brimming with sexuality and aggression.

Right from the get-go the ladies want him! Who could blame them? So it’s no wonder that the heroine, Brooke instantly falls in lust with him when she sees him at a fight. The intense gazes they share is only just the beginning and Brooke already feels as if she is going to pass out from the potency of her reaction to him. So when Remy asks that he come see her after, Brooke – and I’m sure a lot of readers – will are on the edge, wanting to know what he wants. Brooke is a sports rehab specialist and Remy tries to use that to his advantage. He hires her to travel with him and that’s when things really start to heat up!

One thing about this book is that it doesn’t hold back. Evans certainly gives 100% and you can see it in the descriptions of Remy and Melanie’s (Brooke’s friend) enthusiasm. While that sets this book apart from others of its kind, it can also make it feel over the top in some scenes as well. In the underground atmosphere with the fights and the events right after, the drama is necessary and welcome. However, in some scenes, I would have liked that to be pulled back a little bit just so we can see the true rawness in Remy’s character.

That being said, I read this book for Remy. I was dying to know more about him and found that I was interested in knowing his dark secrets. You see just how damaged he is and yet, he is still sensible. I loved how he was with Brooke but also felt that some scenes were too drawn out. The romance is there, but in some cases, I think Brooke confused lust for love. All in all, the story sticks with you. I’m definitely interested in reading the rest of the series.
