“You can always count on the Jessica McClain series to deliver a good action packed read. Jessica is as kick-ass as Roarke sexy.” ~ Under the Covers
You can always count on the Jessica McClain series to deliver a good action packed read. Jessica is as kick-ass as Roark sexy.
Pure Blooded takes off shortly after Red Blooded. In this installment, Jessica seeks out her father whom she has been out of touch with for some time. In this journey, Jessica will find out her big paranormal world will get even bigger. Her services the coalition are requested and, of course, the nonbelievers will threaten her life.
Jessica seems to get stronger each installment of this series. At this point, she has gained so much power that she’s almost a super shifter. She has been accepted by many of her peers and accepted as a powerful alpha. She has definitely come a long way from book one that’s for sure.
There are a couple of things that holds me back from fully enjoying this book. One is the lack of Roarke action. I’m not talking sexy scenes or love scenes because there’s enough of that. We even get some cute and funny moments. But when hell brakes lose, Roarke is again just in the sidelines. I’m not sure exactly how he can fit in being that Jessica is not really his Alpha or the other way around, but I wish he’d have a stronger role in the story not just her mate.
The second thing is the new addition of new characters such as the ghouls, hags, and the warlock, etc. I feel like every paranormal being has been added to the story. Also, the formality and rules of the Coalition was a bit overwhelming.
I did enjoy the strong build up of the secondary characters. Especially of Marcy, Tyler, and even Jeb. I’m intrigued to what Ms. Carlson plans for this series but I’m sure there will be quite a change in the story line.
