“Oh how I wish sometimes that Serendipity was a real place that I could sneak away to!  I have to content myself with reading about it.  And there’s no better example than PERFECT FLING.” ~Under the Covers

We are going through the Marsden siblings in this spin off series and now it’s Erin’s turn.  The only female and the one you would consider the straight laced, a bit uptight, one.  She’s the Assistant DA, a go getter, professional woman with a lot of drive.  But she’s also a good girl to the core.  Which is why things are shaken up from the very beginning when she has a one night stand with the town’s bad boy Cole Sanders.  Cole is back in town after many years of absence and his past is a bit dark and mysterious.  No one really knows much about him.  And he’s definitely not the staying and dating kind of guy.

Enter unexpected “complications” in their personal relationship and someone trying to kill Erin.  All of this makes for Cole stepping in to protect Erin and finding out what she’s been hiding from him.

I have to admit at the beginning when Cole was ok with walking away from Erin because of the old song and dance (he’s not good enough for her) I was a bit annoyed.  When are these heroes going to let the heroines make their own decisions about who is good or not for them?!!?!?  *deep breath*  But then secrets are unveiled and Cole, the alpha male, steps up and takes charge.  And that Cole wants his woman, because now she’s his woman.

The suspense element in this book is light but the story was interesting, even if a bit predictable.  I do think that it plays more of a role than in previous books in the series, but I’ve also come to realize that this new spin off has a touch more suspense than the original Serendipity series.

Something I didn’t see coming is Sam’s love interest.  The ground work for their book is set in motion in this one and I’m not quite sure yet how I feel about his heroine.  I love Sam, so I hope she works out for him.

The family unit and interactions are still very much an integral part of PERFECT FLING, which is one of the things I’ve come to love about the series.  As is usual with small town romances, there’s a sense of family that you can feel even with friends and town gossipers.  It all helps add to the charm of the stories.  Seeing past characters and how they’re doing is always a welcome sight as well.

Oh how I wish sometimes that Serendipity was a real place that I could sneak away to!  I have to content myself with reading about it.  And there’s no better example than PERFECT FLING.  This story had some suspense, some smexy and plenty of emotions.  All that wrapped around a set of great characters!  What more can you ask for?
