“The story is nothing short of original and when I feel I’ve read all the plots there can be in historical romance, that’s always refreshing.”
~ Under the Covers

Judith Worth’s life changed drastically when the man she was supposed to marry ruined her father and brother’s reputation accusing them of treason.  Now, she’s no longer a distinguished member of society as she used to and she’s had to make a lot of sacrifices to give her younger siblings a chance of a good life.  She never wanted to see her childhood friend and once love of her life, Christian, except he’s just the man she needs to ask help of.

You know me and second chance at love stories.  They’re my crack!  And there’s something always enthralling about the way Courtney Milan weaves a tale.  I can’t say that ONCE UPON A MARQUESS is her best work to date, but it does have that classic charm I come to expect.  The story is nothing short of original and when I feel I’ve read all the plots there can be in historical romance, that’s always refreshing.

I love a strong heroine and Judith is that.  She’s taken the reins of her family and held her chin up through troubling times.  Even when she must go to Christian for help, she does it on her terms.  I also loved Christian because he handles her in just the right way.  Not too pushy, not too soft.

This book sets up the Worth family and their saga very well I think.  I am very excited to see the plot thickening in future books and I do have to say I sort of expected where the story went in the end and the big twist we had.  But that just makes me all the more excited for what’s to come.

About Courtney Milan

Courtney Milan lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, a marginally-trained dog, and an attack cat. Courtney wishes she could say she has lived in numerous fabulous places. But aside from her husband, there is a distinct lack of fabulousness in her life. Instead, she is happy when standards in the Milan household hover above mediocrity. Her husband attempts not to kill people for a living.[1] In exchange, Courtney attempts not to do the dishes.

Before she started writing historical romance, Courtney experimented with various occupations: computer programming, dog-training, scientificating... Having given up on being able to do any of those things, she's taken to heart the axiom that those who can't do, teach. When she's not reading (lots), writing (lots), or sleeping (not enough), she can be found in the vicinity of a classroom.

1. The astute reader will notice that this sentence can be read as either "Courtney's husband attempts to make his living by means other than offing unsuspecting passersby," or as "Courtney's husband, while making a living, tries not to leave dead bodies in his wake." Luckily, both are true. Although it must be admitted that Mr. Milan has had greater success with the former.
