Cecy Robson excelled in her debut to the New Adult genre. Once Perfect is not only exciting and sexy, it was intriguing. Cecy infused this romance novel with tough issues such as abuse, family feuds, PTSD, and culture differences. It wasn’t too heavy but the issues were definitely relevant to the story line. I was engaged from the beginning to end.
Once Perfect is a story of a nursing student and ex-con, ex-military, now, a bouncer and MMA fighter. Though coming from totally different ends of the spectrum, Evie and Mateo are made for each other. Despite the culture difference and social status, they had a strong attraction towards each other right of the bat. The strongest connection between them is their past and without knowing it, it was what drew them together. Unfortunately, it also the very thing that can destroy their relationship.
I loved Mateo and Evie. Their story was sexy, sweet, moving and I can say very realistic. I say this from my own and from my friends experiences during college…the nursing student’s sacrifices, the club life, starving student’s life and friends/family drama. And one specific scene with baking cookies that I can totally relate to.
I was most fascinated with Mateo’s life. He worked as a bouncer and an MMA fighter yet not an ounce of that background he ever used against anyone in his family even when they deserved it. His emotional and physical strength fascinated me and damn it, he was hot as hell. I imagined him as Mark Wallberg and often times, Channing Tatum…need I say more?
Overall, a very fine start to what I predict a good series to follow. Cecy truly did a wonderful job with this novel which I had no doubt she will deliver in the next book, Once Love.
