“You should definitely put this on your summer reading must reads!” ~ Under the Covers

MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE was both unexpected and everything that I was hoping for.  The journey we take in this book is beautiful and thought provoking.  We explore two paths our heroine life can take by just making one different decision.  Should she go home with her ex boyfriend after a night out or not.  This book explores her life had she gone home with him, and had she gone back home with her friends.  This is done parallel to each other in alternating chapters.  This was so different and while I thought I would have issues in jumping between the two paths, the author easily separated them.  I didn’t know what kind of resolution we would get.  Would we find out one actually happened instead of the other?  There were so many questions in my head while reading this, and they all just made me want to read faster.

This is my second read by Taylor Jenkins Reid and I am again in awe of her talent as a writer.  The depth of her stories and her characters.  And the way she can get me so invested in her stories.  I am a fan!  I gobble up her books so quick you could call them all-nighters.  There is one thing that remains and that again was true after I finished MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE.  There’s a nice message and a feeling of satisfaction that leaves me happy when I turn that last page.

I don’t want to give too much away about the story, but the main idea is we follow our heroine Hannah Martin as she leaves her life in New York to return to California.  She’s never felt at home anywhere, and she’s lived many places looking for that feeling.  Maybe going back is what she needs to get her life back on track.  There she temporarily moves in with her best friend and meets up with her ex-boyfriend at a bar.  Arguably the love of her life.  I found myself identifying with a lot of things about Hannah.  She’s become very independent not necessarily by choice but by circumstances and what they called for.  In the end, she’s just looking for her happily ever after.  However many obstacles she has to overcome to get there.  And it goes to show you that there are no right or wrong choices in life, they’re all just steps that make you who you are.

MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE is a beautiful story of love and life.  Of finding your own path and your own home.  I smiled and I cried.  You should definitely put this on your summer reading must reads!

“I know there may be universes out there where I made different choices and they led me somewhere else, led me to someone else.  And my heart breaks for every single version of me that didn’t end up with you.”
