ARC Review: His Risk to Take by Tessa Bailey

I discovered Tessa Bailey and her books not too long ago and was very impressed with her debut book, PROTECTING WHAT’S HIS. So I was thrilled to be able to read the second book in the series, HIS RISK TO TAKE. Unfortunately, this book is only a novella but it is probably one of the better ones I’ve read this year.

HIS RISK TO TAKE has another dirty-talking sexy-as-hell cop in it. This time his name is Troy Bennett and our heroine is another feisty gal named Ruby. Ruby and Troy meet when Ruby hussles a guy out of his money over a game of pool and from there, their attraction hits a soaring point.

The novella takes off with a rush and it doesn’t really stop its momentum. The whole book has a fast-paced feel to it. The sex is hard, fast and intense and the suspense definitely kicks this book into top gear.

Now I have to gush like an erotic romance heroine about the sex in this book. Troy is utterly delicious. He says the most crude, but sexiest things and that got him a spot in my harem list for sure. Troy just oozes sex appeal and Ruby (and readers!) will just fall into a heap when this is all done.

Here’s just a taste of the naughtiness you can expect from Troy:

“I’m going to come on your panties. And the next time I see them, I’m going to rip them off with my fucking teeth. Is that clear?”

Oh yes, Troy. I got that loud and clear.

Ruby is another excellent heroine. I loved her flirty nature and her confidence. A man like Troy can easily walk all over a heroine, but Bailey has created a heroine who will keep Troy on his toes. One thing is clear: Tessa Bailey writes amazingly nuanced characters that you cannot help but love.

Do I have to mention the sex? Yes, yes I do. For lack of a better word, it’s explosive! Bailey gets really creative in this one and hell, there is no way I am complaining. Yummy doesn’t cover it!

I did feel like the ending was a little bit rushed in terms of the resolution between Troy and Ruby, but I think that might have had to do with the word count, which is why I’m hoping that the next book is much, much longer! I could get lost in this world forever.
