ARC Review: He’s So Fine by Jill Shalvis

Olivia Bentley is what she goes by now. For a time, Olivia used to be a fresh face in Hollywood where her TV show was a smashing success until she got older. Tired of that life and the scrutiny involved with it, she runs to Lucky Harbor to open up a vintage shop, hoping to remain unnoticed within the crowd. What she doesn’t know is that it’s hard to remain under the radar in Lucky Harbor especially when you have the attention of Cole Donovan, aka Captain Hottie.

Suffering from traumatic stress after an electrical shock has Cole almost “drowning” in the water. But fear not! Olivia jumps in to save him. Only she isn’t the Supergirl she claims to be, especially when she needs to be saved herself when she realized she can’t get him out. Much like the other books by Jill Shalvis, there a lot of laughs to be had in this book. Not only does the book start off with an outrageously funny and adorable scene, but it really sets the tone of the book.

Cole’s book explores a little more about the friendship between Sam, Tanner and Cole and how they became so close and started this business together in memory of their good mate, Gil. However, there is more to it too. Cole’s girlfriend of three years, Susan has leaves her mark on Cole and maybe not in the best way. This insight really opened up a lot of things in terms of Cole’s character and I think it really added a lot of depth to him. I always find that Shalvis is able to create such endearing characters with each book in the series.

I can safely say that this last trio of books remind me a lot of the first three books in the series, all of which are among my favorites. I feel like Shalvis has a plan as she writes this and it’s because of that direction that I believe the books are better for it. Each character has room to grow and by the end of the book, you’re not only falling in love along with the characters, but you’re also learning new things about life in general too.
