ARC Review + Giveaway: The Closer You Come by Gena Showalter

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am about this series.  I absolutely adored the prequel, and I fell in love with the whole town and all the characters that Ms. Showalter introduced us to then.  THE CLOSER YOU COME seals that love.  The woman knows how to write alpha males!  I guarantee you will fall for this bad boy.  And with this series!

And Jase is a bad boy, no questions about it.  He recently came out of jail.  For a crime he did commit.  There’s a story to it, but if you are looking for cupcakes and rainbows he’s not that man.  He’s haunted by many demons and many guilts.  And fights his conscience in wanting a sweet woman he thinks he would be all bad for.  You see my heart melting?  He’s that bad boy you want to see get an HEA because of all he’s been through.

As much as I loved the hero, the heroine is so amazing and unique.  Brook Lynn is a lot of fun.  She kicks ass and takes names.  She’s had to deal with a no good sister that is always more interested in partying than helping with the bills.  She’s had dreams of cooking as a profession, but never thought she could achieve that.  Always fighting to survive, and fighting a disability.  I think Brook Lynn will be one my favorite heroines in this series.  She’s the perfect mix of fun, strong, sassy and independent.  No wilting flower here.

Jase hires Brook Lynn to be his “assistant”, mainly because he wants to help her and wants her around.  As much as having her around is bad for his peace of mind.   While she thinks she may give in to her desires of the bad boy she works with, she’s also grounded enough to say she should date a nice guy.  All around, I think they make such a great couple.  They challenge each other, their chemistry is hot and they complement each other well.  A perfect opposites attract story.

Fair warning, try and not let the beginning of the book get to you.  I let it cloud my judgement for a while, and then I got over it.  When it involves Brook Lynn’s sister, I just have to say I’m so concerned but interested to see how Ms. Showalter will make me like her book (which is next!).  Tough call, but I trust her!
