ย “The sole reason why I fell in love with this series in the first place was because of this couple.” ~Under the Covers

Queen of Paranormal Romance, Nalini Singh returns to the Guild Hunter series with Elena and Raphael. The sole reason why I fell in love with this series in the first place was because of this couple. I loved Raphael as a hero because he was this god-like creature whose power is unparalleled in the world he has created. But in the first book, we saw him succumb to a more human emotion that makes him more endearing and real: love.

Raphael undergoes a few changes in this latest installment. When birds and angels begin to drop from the sky for the duration of five horrific minutes, New York is put into a state of panic as they try to find out what happened and deal with the number of deaths this has caused. Elena, with the help of her friends, Ransom, Sara and even Deacon try to find out what it is that has caused what they call The Falling.

The threat becomes more dire when Raphael bears an unidentified mark on his face that is slowly spreading. Could it be linked to the infection that is trolling the city? Furthermore, the all-powerful Raphael is hearing voices in his sleep, a symptom of madness that his father once had as well. Who are the voices he hears and does this mean that the Archangel of New York is swirling into madness?

Elenaโ€™s character has always been relatable in this series, but I feel that is amplified more in this book. Weโ€™ve learned of her tragic past and how Slater ruined her life and took those of her mother and sisters. But this time, we get more detail about the event and Elenaโ€™s reactions to that kind of loss. We also see her relationship with her father and how grief still remains as a heavy blanket over them even years later.

The politics once again come into play. With Lijuan and her army becoming a threat again and Raphaelโ€™s mother, Caliane stirring up more trouble when she declares that there will never be easiness between her and Lijuan, tension mounts until the threat of war soon becomes an issue.ย

What I love about this series is the lush descriptions that paint out the whole scenery in my mind. This world in my mind is so clear and vivid because of Singhโ€™s attention to detail. While not my favorite of Elena and Raphaelโ€™s books, ARCHANGELโ€™S LEGION is a solid installment to the series. It addresses the darkest elements of Elena and Raphaelโ€™s most greatest fears and tackles them, making for incredible character development and just a wonderful story.

If you havenโ€™t already read this series, then I highly suggest you do. It still remains as one of my favorites.

About the Author

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. Iโ€™m back in New Zealand now, but Iโ€™m always plotting new trips. If youโ€™d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

  12. Why not 5 full stars! Haha, but great review! The last two years waiting for another Elena and Raphael book had been SO TORTUROUS. (Not that I didn’t like Dmitri and Jason, it’s just…I’m Elena and Raphael all the way~) I’m so excited to see how the dynamics between them change, and omg there’s actually salvation for Jeffrey and Elena?? It’s gonna be so great to see any development on both sides and with Raphael, and I’m so excited to learn more about Aodhan and Naasir, and get my daily dose of more Ilium. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  13. I love the series and I’m excited that its getting back to Raphael and Elena.
Felicity Heaton’s Angel series is really good as well as JR Wards Fallen Angels series. Reaver though from IAD has to be my favorite angel. I can’t wait for his book.
Great review as usual. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  14. I’m so glad it was pretty good and got into some plot lines that I’m interested in knowing what happens next. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I like Gena Showalter’s Fallen Angel Series and I like Linda Poitovin’s Angels too.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  15. I love this series and can’t wait for the new release. Another series that works with angels is Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. The work with both angels and fallen angels is really intriguing!

  16. I really like this series. It is one of my faves. Thanks for the review. You’re right Nalini does have a great talent for giving one a vivid description.
I like Felicity Heaton’s, Her Angel series as well.

  17. I haven’t read that many series with angels, but The Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix has a mix of vampire and angel. Of course Gena Showalter’s Angel’s of the Dark is a good series as well.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  18. Crushed Seraphim by Debra Anastasia is really good! It’s about an angel who comes to Earth and tries to save a vampire’s soul, but he ends up falling in love with her. In the meantime, she falls in love with Satan. It’s really intense!

  19. Fallen Angels by JR WARD is the only angel’s series I have read.I have been thinking about starting this since the last dabwaha tho

  20. Aahh I honestly don’t think I’ve read a book specifically about angels before. There’ve been a couple of general supernatural ones that had angels in them (like Richelle Mead’s Succubus series which I really liked)…..
I’d love to read this one though!

  21. Love the GH series! As for other angel stories I’ve enjoyed… Angel Burn and Angel Fire were great! Also, Angelfall.
    Thanks for this giveaway! ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. I agree. One of the strengths of this series is the solid and precise world building. That’s probably why it is the only series about angels that I have loved yet.

  23. oh… i love beauty awakened of gena showalter, ectasy unveiled of larrisa ione but my fav is daemon’s angel of sherrilyn kenyon ๐Ÿ˜€

  24. I honestly do not think I have read too many books with Angels, but I love reading Larissa Ione and cannot wait to read Reaver and of course I love your books Nalini!

  25. The first books that spring to mind are Jon Steele’s Angelus Trilogy and Danielle Trussoni’s Angelology titles. I would swear that I read a James Patterson book that predated his Maximum Ride YA series and featured some of the same characters, but cannot find it among his million-book bibliography. Maybe I’m just touched, lol!

  26. I’ve just started this series, a friend gave me it after she finished . I wasn’t sure if angels were my thing, but wow! I can’t wait to catch up and read Archangels Legion.

  27. Honestly, there’s no other angel books I like… I read JR Ward’s Fallen Angels series, but it’s not a favorite. I also read GS’s Angels of the Dark, but they’re not favorites either.

  28. Well, this series is my favorite, but I also love Meljean Brook’s Guardian series. It is VERY good and is now over *sniff*.

BTW, I’m a huge fan! Loved Archangel’s Legion!

  29. Good review. Looking forward to reading the book. I love both your series. As for another angel series I like its Cynthia Eden’s Fallen series.

  30. I love this series. Been waiting for this book. I also love Gena Showalter’s Angle of the Dark Series, and Cynthia Eden’s Fallen series
