ARC Review: Forged by Desire by Bec McMaster

Perry has been running and hiding from her past for years, but it looks like it may finally be coming back to haunt her. When the bodies of two girls are found and rumours of a steel jawed man stealing women are whispered on the streets of London, Perry knows exactly who is responsible…even though he should have died nine years ago when she sliced a sword through him. But she must keep her secret, telling anyone would paint a target on their back, and she especially cannot tell Garrett Reed, her partner and the acting Guildmaster of the Nighthawks, as well as the man she has been in love with for years. But keeping a secret from Garrett is hard, especially when he won’t stop digging and especially now he is looking at her like she is more than just his best friend and work partner.

This is the fourth book in the London Steampunk series and with each book it just gets better and better. Bec McMaster has managed to create a world full of intrigue and plots, bursting with a variety of characters from the cruel to the honorable and I am always excited to see what will happen next and which direction she will take her series. Then there is the romance; passionate, sweet and intense, I was lapping it all up like a cat with a bowl full of cream.

Perry and Garrett started off as friends, with Perry having a serious case of unrequited love, although she doesn’t seem to know quite how to handle it when Garrett gets requiting, and he requites well. Forged by Desire gradually coils up the sexual tension between them till they are at breaking point, this created an atmosphere of dangerous sensuality as not only does their romance heat up, but the danger surrounding them becomes more intense. But, I also loved that although their romance was hot, it was based on mutual respect and friendship as well, they were a well suited couple and have definitely become one of my favourites in the series.

However, it wasn’t just the romance that kept me riveted to this book, the world of the Echelon keeps getting more interesting and intriguing, full of politics, back stabbing and power plays and with each book I read it becomes clear that something big is going to happen. I can’t wait to see what Bec McMaster has in store for her characters as they all come together to try and topple a corrupt system.

If you are after something with a fantastic romance that is as lovely as it is sexy and passionate as well as a story full of excitement and action then you need to pick up the London Steampunk series, it keeps you hooked and longing for more and I am now eagerly anticipating the next book.
