ARC Review: Faith by Brei Betzold

This second installment of My Misery Muse starts shortly after the last book had ended. Our hero is not one of the band members but Devi’s Brother, Drake. He has been working for an Indie record company and has been a big part of Devi and her son’s life. And now that she is with Seth and raising her own family, Drake can move on with his. For a while now, Drake had his eyes on Mags(Devi’s best friend) but has never made a move until they start spending more time together. Now he is determine to show her how he feels for her.

I love that he knew what he wanted and he just went for it. Drake wanted Mags despite the drama she is caught up with. Who can resist a guy who loves you and all the baggage you come with. Unfortunately, Mags tried to resist him. She, on the other hand, well, she knew what she wanted and that’s to avoid following her mother’s footsteps. She deprived herself of happiness for that very reason. Sometimes she annoyed me that she could not see pass through her fears and it would take a life and death situation before she realizes what she needed and love. But when she finally realized it, she really stood by Drake and I can respect her for that.

I am so glad Ms. Betzold wrote Drake’s story. After taking care of his sister for a long time, it really is his turn for a happy-ever-after. I enjoyed Drake and Mags love story. I thought it was realistic and believable though some scenes were more serious than it actually portrayed. I love that the characters are all present and plays major roles in each other’s lives. Seeing Seth and Devi continue with their HEA is such a treat. The set up for the next book is there and it feels a bit like a cliff hanger because you just get unexplained scenes here and there. I’m assuming the next book will be about Cin and X or maybe Sam.

I do have to mention that there is room for improvement for this up and coming author. I think there are some editing needs for this book. I had the ARC so some mistakes may have been corrected in the final copy.  Though I enjoy multiple POVs in a storyline, the change of character POV here was sometimes abrupt. Don’t get me wrong, these did not bother to deter me from enjoying the book but I feel that I should mention it for the readers that do care about those things.

Someone recently told me that it is better to read a book that has a good storyline with bad editing versus reading a book that has a bad storyline with great editing. And my friend is right; I can overlook bad editing when the plot is good. And that’s what I did here; I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite some editing issues. It’s simple; Ms. Betzold delivered a good story and I could not put down.
