ARC Review: Edge of the Enforcer by Cherise Sinclair

An interesting thing has happened to Lindsey. After being involved with a dangerous man, she is fleeing from false murder charges and finds herself in San Francisco. Worried that her past might come to haunt her, Lindsay takes on small jobs to keep under the radar. However, with that comes a lot of life hassles and less than hygeineic living conditions.

When deVries, the sadist of the Dark Haven BDSM club, finds out about this, he takes her under his wing. His helping hand scares Lindsey at first because she isn’t used to comfort coming from deVries – just pain. While deVries starts off as a mean bastard in the beginning, he softens, showing readers a different side to him that had me falling in love with him. At first their relationship starts off strained. If you’ve read the last book in the series, you know that Lindsey still owes deVries a blowjob and anal sex from the games. When he wants to cash in, it puts Lindsey in a vulnerable state. As a sadist, deVries likes to inflict more pain than she can handle, so a lot of the book is Lindsey trying to meet his needs.

What I love about this book is that the characters feel very real. There are several dimensions to them. Sometimes you love them. Sometimes you hate them. Sometimes you question their decisions and other times, you cannot be more than happy with them. Having readers go through those type of emotions in a single book is hard to do, but Cherise Sinclair is one of those authors who is able to do it each time with her books.

I love the suspense subplot to the storyline. It’s one of the things I love most about Sinclair’s books. While she takes some leaps, they never seem so out there that they seem foolish. This realistic aspect to the book always makes it believable and that’s why I always find her books so entertaining to read.

There is one scene in this book that didn’t do it for me. I’m not a fan of edge play. Knives freak me out, so that particularly scene was read pretty quickly. However, as you can expect, the rest of the sex scenes are well-written and will no doubt stay true to the characters. Depending on personal preferences, Sinclair does have something for everyone. This is, once again, something I love about Sinclair. In every book, she tries something new. Another kink is explored. She is never limiting herself and her books continue to grow because of that.
