“It’s nice to see [an author] who is willing to tackle those sensitive subjects and put it in a character to explore and more importantly, to grow from that.” ~ Under the Covers
DREAM OF YOU is a novella set in the Wait For You world and it features Abby Erickson and Colton Anders. For this story, Armentrout goes for the suspense plot. Abby witnesses a terrible crime and while scared to death, she encounters Colton who tries to protect her.
I’ve pretty much read all of Armentrout’s books so I knew I was going to read this book regardless but I will say that over the years I’ve noticed a change in her writing style. I wonder if it’s because she wrote paranormal YA before and recently shifted to NA, etc but the tone of her writing has changed with the genre shift. I find that her Contemporaries are a little more easy to read. But in saying that, she also employs a lot of typical modern sayings that grated on me a little bit. There’s a lot of “Oh my gods” heavily sprinkled throughout and while that wouldn’t annoy me as much, I think it just made her heroine, Abby seem much more younger and naïve than I think Armentrout was aiming for.
What I did enjoy was the fact that Armentrout makes Abby very self-conscious about her weight. She gets criticized a lot for her size and it’s nice to see someone who is willing to tackle those sensitive subjects and put it in a character to explore and more importantly, to grow from that.
While the story is heavily steeped in suspense, there is also a lot of sweetness in DREAM OF YOU. I think if you’re already a fan of Armentrout’s writing style, you won’t have a problem enjoying this novella.
Thanks annie…i agree it’s good to see an author write about a sensitive subject
Yeah, I think it’s very important and it’s wonderful to see such diversity in characters. It’s important for women to embrace other women.
Thanks for the review Annie
