“What I did get is a perfect example of Stockholm Syndrome, with a twist in the end that the author tried to shock readers with but it was predictable almost from the start.” ~ Under the Covers

I have read one other book by Brighton Walsh in the past and enjoyed it enough to give CAPTIVE a shot.  I have to admit that I wasn’t too sure what to expect.  And I probably didn’t get what I was hoping for.

We all love reading about the damage heroine.  Madison has lived a life of luxury but not love.  Her father is a very successful business man, her mom is the perfect society wife.  All of that is really just a front for how really broken their family life is.  Her mom has been an alcoholic for years, her father doesn’t care about her or Madison.  And Madison is the one left to take care of her mother day in and day out.  While his dad is out doing who knows what and sleeping in another room.  Madison is also very insecure about her body as well.  There are some things about Madison that I really liked and I could care about her at times.

She’s kidnapped by Ghost.  And she’s just meant to be kept at a cabin until a deal with her father goes through.  But things are a bit more complicated than that in the end.  While I wished there was a bit more intrigue in the story, it really just centered around the quick romance and insta-love between Ghost, the captor, and Madison.  I would’ve loved to see Ghost in a different light than this environment, because I think his character had layers of depth we didn’t get to fully explore.

What I did get is a perfect example of Stockholm Syndrome, with a twist in the end that the author tried to shock readers with but it was predictable almost from the start.  And I’m not the biggest fan of Stockholm Syndrome books, but if you are then you will enjoy this one a lot.

CAPTIVE just lacked something that I can’t really put my finger on.  It was a quick read, and I enjoyed it ok, but it wasn’t memorable and I don’t think personally it’s enough to make me want to continue the series.
