“AWAKENING YOU is brimming with real emotion. Every time I opened up a Jessica Sorensen book, I know Iโm going to be falling for the couple. She simply writes the best characters.” ~ Under the Covers
AWAKENING YOU by Jessica Sorensen is the third book in the Unraveling You series. When I got the ARC of this book, I knew I wanted some uninterrupted time with this novel because Sorensen has this unique way of pulling you in and making you care about her characters.
Ayden has been undergoing some therapy that should help him with his amnesia. After the death of his brother, he is more than determined to find out what really happened to him and his siblings. Knowing that his sister, Sadie is still out there, perhaps suffering, makes him want to tear open his mind just to help her. However, the amnesia therapy seems to be doing more harm than help as Ayden begins to experience panic attacks. His sleepwalking also worsens and it isnโt until Lyric helps distract him that he feels like he can function again.
A lot of questions are raised in this book, but not all of them are answered. I was hoping that this would be the book where all of those loose ends were tied up, but it seems that Sorensen has something else in mind. She raises the stakes in this book, deepening conflict and creating more questions instead of answers. Iโm starting to get worried because Ayden seems to be reaching his breaking point and to make matters worse, the Gregorys are starting to worry for him as well.
On the romantic front, Lyric and Ayden make some progress although it stands more on the sweet and emotional side rather than the hot sexiness that we are used to from Sorensen. I donโt mind at all. After the suggested sexual abuse Ayden has endured, itโs only natural for him to get nervous at physical contact. What makes the romance for me is the fact that Lyric doesnโt ever push him. She waits and waits and waits until he feels comfortable enough to make that first step. For a girl who is as impatient and lively as Lyric is, itโs a major consideration and shows just how much she cares about Ayden.
Sorensen also touches on Sage and Maggie. Now this is an interesting development because as you know, Sage had a thing for Lyric once. I donโt know how I feel about this yet; itโs too early to tell but what I do know is that I want something GREAT for Sage. I think heโs going to be the bad boy that is reminiscent of Quinton or maybe even Michaโs character.
AWAKENING YOU is brimming with real emotion. Every time I opened up a Jessica Sorensen book, I know Iโm going to be falling for the couple. She simply writes the best characters.

โAnd donโt ever forget that, my friend.โ I remove the dipstick, glance at the oil level, then put the stick back in. Wiping my hand off with a rag, I step back from the car. โIt looks like it mightโโ My back bumps into Ayden.
He hardly ever instigates contact first, expect on rare, amazing, wonder-filled occasions, so I allow myself to enjoy the earth-shattering moment and breathe in the feel of his body heat.
I smile stupidly when he doesnโt move away. โWhatcha doing?โ
โNothing.โ His voice is uneven, revealing his nerves. โI was justโฆโ He releases a breath then places his hands on my hips. Surprisingly, his fingers are steady. โI just wanted to touch you.โ He rests his forehead against the back of my head and inhales deeply. โAnd to make sure youโre okay.โ
โOkay about what?โ My eyelids drift shut as I lean into his touch.
His simple touches are better than light.
They awaken my body and bring it to life.
More. More. More, my body is craving.
The addiction is potent, consuming, aching.
Leaves my body wanting, pleading, shaking.
Sometimes I feel like Iโm withering, fading.
Fading. Fading. Fading.
Into him.
โAbout โฆ about what happened the other day โฆ when I sleepwalked.โ His fingers grasp onto me, and his chest crashes against my back as his shallow breaths turn ragged. โI know I probably freaked you out. Iโve been meaning to ask you about it, but I didnโt want to upset you, so I decided to wait until stuff cooled off.โ
โIโm not upset about what happened.โ And not surprised one little bit that my theory about him was right. I turn around and loop my arms around him. โIโm just worried about you and how youโre handling it.โ
โIโm fine,โ he swears, searching my eyes for my true feelings. He forgets, though, that Iโm like an open book.

Thank you for your thoughtful well written review. I loved this book & the series for the reasons mentioned. However the ending killed me. June seems a long way off. ๐
Hey Lea!
Gahh! Me too. I was actually hoping for a HEA but I can understand how difficult it will be for Ayden. He breaks my heart.
Thanks Annie
I’ve been avoiding emotional books but I really want to read these!
